FAQ for Student Information System (SIS) integration for admins

This article is for administrators.

To use the SIS integration features, all teachers must have one of the following:

  • A Google Workspace for Education Plus license
  • A Teaching and Learning Upgrade license

Starting July 9, 2024, you must have one of these licenses in order to use the grade export feature.

Important: SIS integration is available with numerous partners. Other SIS partnerships are in development. Learn about SIS integration partnership status.

Google Workspace for Education

Why do I need a Google Workspace for Education account to use SIS integration features?
The connection between the SIS and Classroom is managed by a Google Workspace for Education admin. The connection can't be set up without a Google Workspace for Education account.

Help and feedback

How can I get more help with SIS integration features?

For support with your student information system (SIS), contact your SIS support team.

For Google Workspace for Education support options, go to Contact Google Workspace support.

Important: Support is only available if your district uses a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution that your SIS provider fully hosts and manages.

How can I provide feedback about SIS integration features?
  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. In the lower-left corner, click Help and then Report issue or request feature.
  3. Enter your feedback and click Send.
How’s an assign date for an assignment determined during SIS grade export?

The assignment’s publish date determines the assign date. However, if you post an assignment after the due date, outside the SIS class dates, or outside the SIS grading period, we use an assign date that’s shortly before the given due date.

Infinite Campus FAQ

Which version of Infinite Campus is compatible with SIS integration?

Google Classroom supports SIS integration for districts that run a SaaS solution that Infinite Campus hosts and manages. SIS integration is not available for districts with servers that non-SIS providers manage.

Non-SIS providers:

  • Infinite Campus software that runs through on-premise deployment
  • Cloud deployments that Infinite Campus doesn’t manage
  • District-hosted deployments that run across multiple organizations and admin groups

Important: Infinite Campus doesn’t control the maintenance and configuration of servers managed by non-SIS providers. Firewalls, query throughput and latency differences, and other factors may vary between deployments, which Google Classroom is unable to support.

What are the requirements for grade export to Infinite Campus?
  • Grade export to classes in the SIS relies on the email address field for students, so a valid Google Workspace for Education email address is needed for successful export.
  • Assignment titles are truncated to 50 characters when they are imported into the SIS.
  • All co-teachers can export grades, even co-teachers outside your Google Workspace for Education domain.
  • All assignments must have a due date and be within the grading period set up in Infinite Campus.
  • Grade categories carry over if the category titles match. If they don’t match, your grades might be assigned to a default category or marked as "Uncategorized.”

Clever FAQ

If Clever creates and rosters the class, can teachers export grades into a connected Student Information System?

Yes, even if Clever creates and rosters the class, teachers can still export grades from Classroom to their Student Information System.

Admins can also connect Classroom to their Student Information System and teachers can import data from their SIS into Clever-rostered classes.

If an admin connects Classroom to their Student Information System, should they disable the Clever integration, which creates and rosters classes?

The admin shouldn’t need to disable the Clever integration. The admin can still use Clever to create and roster classes.

Admins can connect Classroom to their Student Information System. For Clever-rostered classes, teachers can still:

  • Import information, such as grade categories and grading periods, from their SIS into Classroom.
  • Export grades from Classroom into their SIS.
