FAQ for SIS grade export

This article is for teachers and administrators.

Note: The SIS grade export feature is currently available for the following cloud-based partners:

  • Infinite Campus users with the Campus Learning License
  • Skyward version 2.0 users with the LMS API license

Here are some common questions about grade export to your student information system (SIS).

Grade export status

How do I know when grades were last exported?
You can check the date and time of your last export on the Grades page.
  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. On the class card, click Open gradebook "".
  3. On the Grades page, next to SIS export, click the Down arrow "".

  4. (Optional) For more details, click Last export details
How do I know if an export was successful?
After an export finishes, you can check the SIS Export Details report.
  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. On the class card, click Open gradebook "".
  3. Next to SIS export, click the Down arrow ""and thenLast export details.
  4. (Optional) Review the SIS Export Details report and fix any errors.
How can I fix export errors?

Step 1: Open your SIS Export Details report

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. On the class card, click Open gradebook "".
  3. Next to SIS export, click the Down arrow ""and thenLast export details.

Step 2: For each item that failed to export, ensure the following and try exporting again

  • The classwork due date is in the current SIS grading period.
  • The students’ Classroom email addresses match their email addresses in the SIS.
  • The classwork title is not too long.
  • The classwork post time is within the current SIS grading period. Learn more
How do I know when an export finishes?
You can check if an export is finished or still in progress.
  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. On the class card, click Open gradebook "".
  3. When an export is in progress, on the Grades page, the SIS export button shows Exporting and you see Export in progress.

  4. (Optional) To check when the last export finished, next to SIS export click the Down arrow ""and thenLast export details.   

Availability

Who can connect an SIS to Classroom?
To use SIS grade export, your school or institution:
  • Must use one of the following SISs:
    • Infinite Campus—You must have a Campus Learning License through Infinite Campus.
    • Skyward—You must use Skyward version 2.0 and have the LMS API license.
    • Partnerships with other SISs are in development. Learn more.
  • Must use Classroom with G Suite for Education.
  • Must be OneRoster compliant. If your SIS is not OneRoster compliant, use the Classroom API for grade export instead.
After admins set up the connection, teachers can link their Classroom classes and export grades to the SIS. Only the teacher listed as the primary teacher in the SIS can link the class.    
Which SISs are supported?
Currently, we support Infinite Campus and Skyward 2.0. Other SIS partnerships are in development.

G Suite for Education

Why do I need a G Suite for Education account to use SIS Grade export?
The connection between the SIS and Classroom is managed by a G Suite for Education admin. The connection can't be set up without a G Suite for Education account.
How much is a G Suite for Education account? 
Your school or institution can apply for a free G Suite for Education account.

How can I get more help with SIS grade export?
For support with your student information system (SIS), contact your SIS support team. 
For G Suite for Education support options, go to Contact Google Workspace support.
How can I provide feedback about SIS grade export?
  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. In the lower-left corner, click Help ""and thenReport issue or request feature.
  3. Enter your feedback and click Send.

Infinite Campus FAQ

Which version of Infinite Campus is compatible with grade export?
School districts that use the cloud-based instance and have a Campus Learning License can use grade export.
What are the requirements for grade export to Infinite Campus?
  • Grade export to classes in the SIS relies on the email address field for students, so a valid G Suite for Education email address is needed for successful export.
  • Infinite Campus will assign a default grade category for all assignments. You can adjust this grade category later in Infinite Campus.
  • Assignment titles are truncated to 50 characters when they are imported into the SIS.
  • Co-teachers from outside your G Suite for Education domain can’t export grades.
  • All assignments must have a due date and be within the grading period set up in Infinite Campus.

Which version of Skyward is compatible with grade export?
The cloud based instance of Skyward version 2.0 with the LMS API license is compatible with SIS grade export.
What are the requirements for grade export to Skyward?
To use grade export with Skyward SMS 2.0:
  • All assignments must have a due date within the SIS grading period.
  • Assignment titles and their due dates must be unique in a class to avoid duplicates.
  • Instructors must have returned grades on the Classroom Grades page.
  • Linking existing Classroom classes to classes in the SIS relies on the email address field for students. Valid G Suite for Education email addresses are required and must match the email addresses in the SIS. 
Note: Co-teachers from outside your G Suite for Education domain can’t export grades from your class.
