Export grades to your Student Information System (SIS) gradebook

This article is for teachers. Administrators, go here.

To use SIS integration features, all teachers must have one of the following:

  • A Google Workspace for Education Plus license
  • A Teaching and Learning Upgrade license

Starting July 9, 2024, you must have one of these licenses in order to use the grade export feature.

If you use Classroom with Google Workspace for Education, you can connect Classroom to your SIS. After your administrator configures the connection, you can link your classes and use SIS Integration features like importing student rosters and exporting grades to SIS. Learn more about SIS integration features.

Important: SIS integration is available with numerous partners. Other SIS partnerships are in development. Learn about SIS integration partnership status.

Link a class and export grades

Link a class to your SIS

Before you can export grades for the first time, you have to link your class to the SIS. You only have to link a class once. Only the primary teacher can link a class to the SIS. You can link a new or existing class.

Link a new class

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. Click Add and then Create class.
  3. Next to Link with, click the Down arrow and select your class from the list.

Tip: If your class isn’t on the list, the class isn’t set up in your SIS. You can finish creating your class now, and follow the steps to link an existing class later.

  4. To finish creating your class, enter your class details and then click Create.

Your new class is linked to the SIS.

Link an existing class

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

You can now export returned grades to your SIS.

Export grades to your SIS

After you link your class to the SIS, you can export grades. You can only export returned grades or submissions marked as "Missing" or "Excused." Draft grades don’t export to your SIS.

To submit past due assignments, manually mark them as "Missing," "Excused," or "Complete."

Tip: To export grades successfully, classwork needs a due date in the current SIS grading period. To change a due date, go to Edit an assignment.

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. Click the class and then Grades.
  3. On the right, click SIS export.
    Export grades
  4. Grades export for any classwork with a checked box. For any grades you don't want to export, uncheck the box. Classwork you don't export this time shows under Previously excluded on your next export.
Tip: Under Grade updates, you see the number of returned grades since your last export.
  5. Click SIS export.

If any grades fail to export, check the export status, or go to Troubleshoot SIS grade export.

Check export status

After you export grades, you can view an export status report.

Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. Click the class and then Grades.

Unlink a class

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. Click the class and then Settings .

  4. To confirm, click Unlink.

Tips:

  • Grade categories carry over differently for each SIS. If you export grades to:
    • Aspen, Infinite Campus, Skyward SMS 2.0, and Skyward Qmlativ SIS:
      • Grade categories carry over if the category titles match. If they don't match, your grades might be assigned to a default category or marked as "Uncategorized.”
    • PowerSchool SIS:
      • Grade categories must be attached to an assignment in order to be exported successfully. Make sure the grade category titles match in Classroom and PowerSchool SIS.
  • To download a copy of your grades page with grade categories, learn how to download grades.
