Archive and delete a class

This page is for teachers. Students go here.

At the end of a semester or a school year, you can archive classes you’re finished with. You can unarchive a class if you want to use it again.

If you don’t archive finished classes, they still appear on your Classroom homepage, and on students’ homepages. As students can’t archive any class, they need teachers to do it.

When you archive a class

  • It’s parked in a separate area to preserve the class materials, student work, and posts.
  • You no longer see it among your active classes on the homepage.
  • You and your students can view an archived class, but nobody can modify it.To use the class again, you have to unarchive it.

Who can archive a class?

Only teachers and co-teachers can archive a class. Students can only view archived classes. If a teacher or co-teacher archives a class, it’s archived for all teachers. No other teacher can use the class unless it’s unarchived.

What happens class materials?

When a class is archived or deleted, you and your students can still access the files on your Google Drive. When you assign work with attachments, or students attach materials to work they’re submitting, you and the students, retain the materials in Drive folders.
