Transfer ownership of a class

This page is for teachers. This feature is not available to students.

If you’re changing the classes you teach or leaving the school, you can transfer a class you own to a co-teacher in the class. If the co-teacher accepts the transfer, they become the primary teacher of the class. You become a co-teacher of the class.

Who can you transfer a class to?

  • If you have a G Suite for Education account—You can transfer a class to a co-teacher in your domain.
  • If you’re using Classroom with a personal Google Account—You can transfer ownership to a co-teacher with a personal Google Account.

Who owns class materials after a transfer?

After you transfer ownership of a class, the new primary teacher is the owner of:

  • The class Google Drive folder
  • Materials in the class templates folder
  • Turned-in student work

Who owns deleted materials?

If you have a G Suite for Education account, you still own any materials that were deleted before the ownership transfer. If the materials are restored, you still own them. Learn more about making someone else the owner of your files.

Note: The new primary teacher can delete the class.
