Manage video content metadata

Some video features might not be enabled for your network. To learn more, contact your account manager.

Keys and values set up in your content management system (CMS) are available to map in DFP after your video content is ingested. Once mapped and enabled, they are available to target as key-values or to target in content bundles. Enabled keys and their mapped values are available in reporting.

Requirements and recommendations for DFP keys

  • DFP keys used for mapping must be set up as predefined.
  • DFP key-values must adhere to system limits and key-value format requirements.
  • One DFP key can map to multiple metadata keys. One DFP key-value can map to multiple metadata key-values. However, the reverse is not possible—one metadata key can not be mapped to multiple DFP keys.
  • For ease of reporting, use separate DFP keys for general line item targeting and for mapped metadata targeting.

To access and map your metadata as keys:

  1. Sign in to DoubleClick for Publishers.
  2. Click Video and then Metadata.

The keys listed under the "CMS key" column are populated from your ingested video content. They are not targetable until they are mapped and enabled.

The metadata page is locked, by default. The locked view displays your enabled keys. To view all keys, edit, enable, or disable keys, change Locked to Editable.

Enable or disable a CMS key or metadata value

On the editable metadata page, enable Icon for targetable CMS key or disable Icon for non-targetable CMS key any CMS key, or click the key name to view, enable, or disable its metadata values.

CMS keys and metadata values are automatically enabled when you edit and save. If they do not adhere to key-value format requirements, they remain disabled.

Edit and map CMS keys

When you edit a CMS key, the revised name is displayed in the DFP targeting picker and in Query Tool reports as a key-value. For example, if you map a CMS key from "duration" to "length", the "length" key becomes available to target as a key-value and can be reported on.

All keys must be unmapped prior to editing.

To edit an enabled CMS key:

  1. Sign in to DoubleClick for Publishers.
  2. Click Video and then Metadata and then the pencil icon next to the key to open the "Key mapping" window.

Disabled CMS keys need to be enabled to edit or map.

  3. Enter the name of the DFP key and click SAVE. Keys are not case sensitive.

Edited CMS keys display as the original, followed by the edited in parenthesis. For example "duration (length)".

Edit and map metadata values

When you edit a metadata value, the revised value is displayed in the DFP targeting picker and in Query Tool reports as a key-value. For example, if you edit a metadata value from "movies" to "films", the "films" value becomes available to target as a key-value and can be reported on.

  1. Sign in to DoubleClick for Publishers.
  2. Click Video and then Metadata and then the CMS key whose values you want to edit or enable.
  3. To edit an enabled metadata value, click the pencil icon next to the value to open the "Value mapping" window.

Disabled values need to be enabled to edit.

  4. In the DFP value field, type the name of the DFP value and click SAVE. Values are not case sensitive.
You can click MAP VALUES ON PAGE to enable all values shown at once. Since DFP allows you to see up to 100 values on a single page, you can enable up to 100 values. When enabling in bulk, you may find it helpful to filter values on a page. For example, you could filter by sports, and then enable only those values.

Edited values display as the original followed by the edited in parenthesis. For example, "movies (films)".

Report on video content metadata NEW

You can run a report on video content metadata in the Query Tool once you have at least one key enabled and mapped. To get started:

  1. Sign in to DoubleClick for Publishers.
  2. Create a query and choose the "Historical" report type.
  3. Select your dimension(s) and include at least one of the following:

Metadata key: Displays metrics for the keys you mapped to video content. Metrics shown per key are an aggregate of all values assigned to that key. There is no limit to the number of keys displayed in a report.

Content metadata: Displays metrics for content metadata values whose keys are enabled and mapped. Each dimension under "content metadata" is a metadata key. When you choose a dimension, the report displays the metrics for all the values assigned to that key.

While there is no limit on available keys you can report on, there is a Query Tool limit of 10 dimensions per report.
