Change "Ok Google" settings
You can talk to your Google Assistant by saying "Ok Google."
On some devices, you can also say "Hey Google." Any settings for "Ok Google" also apply to "Hey Google."
Let your voice open the Google Assistant
On Pixel 3 phones, your voice can open the Google Assistant even when your phone is locked. Learn how to control what info you see and hear.
- On your Android phone or tablet, touch and hold the Home button or say "Ok Google."
- In the bottom right, tap

- Under "Assistant devices," select your phone or tablet.
- Turn on Google Assistant.
- Turn on Access with Voice Match.
If you turn off Access with Voice Match:
- You can still talk with the Google Assistant by touching and holding the Home button on your phone.
- On Pixel 3 and Pixel 2 phones, you can also squeeze your phone to talk to the Google Assistant.
- If your watch screen is dim, tap the screen to wake it up.
- On the watch screen, swipe down from the top.
- Tap Settings

- Turn on "Ok Google" detection.
Choose if "Ok Google" unlocks your phone or tablet
You can let "Ok Google" unlock your device when the Google Assistant recognizes your voice. This setting can make your device less secure. A similar voice or recording of your own voice could unlock your device.
On Pixel 3 phones, you can’t unlock your phone by saying "Ok Google." Instead, you can use the Google Assistant on your lock screen. Learn how to control what information you see and hear.

Teach the Google Assistant to recognize your voice
If the Google Assistant isn’t responding to "Ok Google" on your phone or tablet, try these steps.
- On your Android phone or tablet, touch and hold the Home button or say "Ok Google."
