[GA4] Create user-scoped custom dimensions

Report on and advertise with the data from custom user properties

Create user-scoped custom dimensions to report on custom user properties. When you add a custom user property to your website or app code, the user-scoped custom dimension unlocks the ability to dissect and understand the user-specific data.

Before you begin

Instructions

  1. In Admin, under Data display, click Custom definitions.
  2. Select the Custom dimensions tab
  3. Click Create custom dimensions.
  4. Complete the following fields:
    Field Description
    Dimension name

Enter a unique name for the new dimension. The name you choose will appear in your reports and ad platform.

You can't use hyphens in the name, but you can use underscores and spaces instead.

    Scope

Select User to create a user-scoped custom dimension.

You can't change this field after you save the new dimension.

Description Optional text used to identify the user-scoped custom dimension.
    User property

Enter the name of the custom user property in your website or app code.

You can't change this field after you save the new dimension.

  5. Click Save.

Example

You configure a user property called profession, which you use to collect each user's profession. To analyze different user professions in your reports, you create the following user-scoped custom dimension:

  • Dimension name: Profession
  • Scope: User
  • Description: The profession of a user
  • User property: profession
