Meet the next generation of Google Analytics

How to get started with the new Google Analytics

Google Analytics 4 (formerly known as “App + Web”) is a new kind of property, with different reports than what you're used to seeing in Universal Analytics properties.  One advantage of a Google Analytics 4 property is that you can use it for a website, an app, or both a website and app together. Universal Analytics properties only support websites. Read the announcement to learn more.

Get started

To try out the new Google Analytics, set up your website and/or app on a Google Analytics 4 property. There are three ways to do this. (You'll need the Editor role on the Google Analytics account.)

If you use a web platform that requires you to provide a "UA-" ID  (i.e. won't accept a "G-" ID), you can still use Google Analytics 4 by pasting the global site tag (gtag.js) snippet manually into your website builder's/CMS's custom HTML field. Select your website builder from this table for platform-specific instructions.
If you rely on Universal Analytics features and reporting, we recommend that you set up your site on both Google Analytics 4 and Universal Analytics. This allows you to explore your Google Analytics 4 property, and switch over to view your Universal Analytics property any time.

If you use Google Analytics for Firebase for your app

Existing Google Analytics for Firebase customers are advised to upgrade to a Google Analytics 4 property (formerly known as App + Web).  Follow these instructions to upgrade your Firebase project to a Google Analytics 4 property.

Next steps

Admins can use the Setup Assistant in the new Google Analytics 4 property to complete property configuration.

Once your new property is set up and data is flowing in, you can begin exploring:
