Creating a +Post ad

Do you want to connect with people and build your brand? With +Post ads, the content and engagement that you're already building on Google+ can be promoted across the web. Drive a larger audience to your posts, videos, and Hangouts (limited availability), and watch the interaction with your business grow.

Examples

Example: +Post ads for brand advertising

A global car manufacturer was launching a new car this year, and was looking for innovative ways to reach customers that were constantly connected and shared frequently online. With the launch of the new car, it made sense for the manufacturer not only to post about the launch from its Google+ page but to create ads based on its most important posts.

By developing content that would appeal to its audience, this company delivered the right message at the right time. This example shows how using +Post ads can help you use the web as a social platform.

Example: +Post ads for small businesses

Here’s another example of how you can use +Post ads:

Molly, owner of an online French bakery, loves two things in the world: making beautiful, delicious cakes and connecting with people. What with testing new recipes, overseeing chefs, and crunching the numbers to keep her business humming, she doesn’t have a lot of time to figure out online advertising. But, she does keep in touch with her customers through a Google+ page for her bakery.

When she found out she can promote her social content to increase customer awareness of her business, she was excited. In AdWords, Molly decides to create an engagement ad campaign. Because it’s June, the height of wedding season, she chooses an image of one of her most popular wedding cakes. Molly knows there have been a lot of comments and +1s on her post about an upcoming wedding-cake tasting, so she selects that particular post. Voilà! Instant +Post ad.

Minimum requirements

Before you create a +Post ad, first make sure you meet the following requirements:

Policy requirements

Read the +Post ads policy before creating your ads.

Getting started

Here are some ways you can create +Post ads in AdWords:

  • With your latest post on your Google+ page.
  • With any post that you choose.

Before you start selecting posts to promote, make sure your social editorial calendar aligns with your content priorities.

Video

  • Grow the reach of your video content. Any YouTube video you post on Google+ can be turned into a +Post ad.
  • Use your own custom thumbnail images during the YouTube video upload process to make the static banner ad more compelling.
  • Drive incremental video views beyond YouTube and Google+ to the web, and increase social actions on your videos.

Hangouts On Air

  • Hangouts On Air events can be promoted using +Post ads, helping brand advertisers own the “front row” for live, branded experiences. These ads help raise awareness of the events, let people watch the Hangouts live, and tune in afterwards, all from lightbox display ads across the web.
  • To learn more about requirements for promoting live Hangouts with +Post ads, please contact your Google representative.

Keep in mind

When you promote your Google+ page, your +Post ad will be available in only one size. But, when you promote any of your Google+ posts, your +Post ad will be available in multiple sizes.

Best practices

As you create +Post ads, keep these best practices in mind.

Ad text

  • Space is limited. Make the first few words of the organic post actionable (for example, “Watch now,” “Join us,” “Check out,” etc.).
  • Google recommends previewing ads within AdWords before promoting them as an ad creative to ensure that the text appears as you’ve planned. Note that the full copy in your post will show in the expanded lightbox once someone engages with the ad.
  • Monitor your posts and comments to avoid improper content from appearing in your ad. Learn about managing comments on your post, in the Google+ Help Center.

Images

  • High-resolution images relevant to your company, product, or service tend to create a visually interesting experience once expanded in a lightbox ad. Avoid posts with stock photography and do not post images for which you have not obtained proper rights.
  • GIF files are allowed, and will run for 30 seconds in the static banner on a publisher page.
  • Specs: Available ad formats are: 300 x 250, 728 x 90, 160 x 600, 320 x 50 (mobile), 120 x 600, 300 x 600, 250 x 250, 336 x 280, 580 x 400, 468 x 60, and 970 x 90. You can use any image, and we will resize and crop it automatically to fit to the ad unit. For the 300 x 250 ad format, we recommend using images with the aspect ratio of 16:9, and ensuring that no text is along the top and bottom 5% of the image because the text might get truncated in some of the formats.
