Create a website for your ads
In order to advertise with Google AdWords, you need to have your own website to promote. Your online ads will link to this site, and you can use it as an opportunity to let customers know more about your business. If you don't already have a website, you can create one for free using Google Sites. If you don't want a website, an alternative option is to create a Google Places for Business page. It takes 5 minutes to create and gives customers your contact information, hours and more.
Create a website with Google Sites
Google Sites is a free online application that makes creating a website as easy as editing a document. You can customize the site to your liking, and even upload images that relate to your business or service. You can then use the URL of the website in your AdWords ads, so that potential customers are taken to that site when they click on your ad.
Here's how to create a new site:
- Visit www.google.com/sites.
- Sign in with your Google Account. If you don't have one, click Sign up for Sites and follow the steps to create a Google Account.
- Click the Create new site button to get started.
- Name your website. Once you enter in a name, a URL will be automatically generated in the box below. (Note: When you create an AdWords account, you'll need to enter this URL in step #2.)
- Enter a short description of your site (this step is optional).
- Next to Share with, select the button for Everybody in the world can view this site, so that anyone can view your site.
- Select a site theme (site layout). To see more themes, click More themes...
- Click Create site.
When making a website for your business, consider what information is most useful to your customers. This often includes store hours, location, and product information. It's also helpful to use terms that customers might use to describe your business.
At this point, you can edit the site to your liking, keeping it as simple or elaborate as you want. For detailed instructions on editing your site, as well as answers to frequently asked questions about using Google Sites, please visit http://www.google.com/support/sites/.
Link your site to your AdWords ad
When you create a site using Google Sites, the system generates a URL in this type of format: http://sites.google.com/site/example. As you proceed to create an AdWords account, you'll be asked in step #2 to type in this URL. This URL is your destination URL, which is the URL address for the page in your website where you'd like people to be sent after they click your ad.
