2. Make and receive calls

You can make and receive calls on your computer at voice.google.com or use the Google Voice app on your mobile device.

When you make calls in Voice, you can use Wi-Fi and mobile data instead of minutes from your mobile phone plan. If an Internet connection isn't available, you can make calls using the linked number from your mobile carrier if you set up a number.

2.1 Make a call

Note: The buttons on your connected Bluetooth devices may not work as expected to answer calls or hang up.

On a mobile device

Note: If you want to make calls through your mobile device carrier, caller ID needs to be turned on.

  1. Open the Voice app "".
  2. At the bottom, tap Calls .
  3. If the person is in your recent calls list, next to their name, tap Call .
    1. Or, choose one of these methods:
      • In the search bar at the top, enter the person's name or phone number. Select them from the list of contacts that appears.
      • Tap Dial and enter the number.

        For international calls, enter the country code before the number (for example, +55 for Brazil).

    2. Tap Call .

Call on mobile


Make a call using Wi-Fi and mobile data:

  1.  Open the Google Voice app "".
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menuand thenSettings.
  3. Under Calls, tap Make and receive calls.
  4. Select Prefer Wi-Fi and mobile data.

Important: If you start a call from your mobile device instead of the Google Voice app, the call uses minutes from your mobile phone plan.

On mobile, select "Prefer Wi-Fi and mobile data"

On a computer

(Chrome Browser or MozillaFirefox only)

  1. On your computer, go to voice.google.com.
  2. In the Calls Calls tab tab, if the person appears in your recent calls list, point to their name and click Call .

    Or, choose one of these methods in the Calls Calls tab, Messages Messages tab, or Voicemail Voicemail tab tabs:

    • If the person appears in your contacts list on the right, click their name.
    • In the search bar at the top, or in the Enter name or number field on the right, enter the person's name or phone number. Click their name in the list of contacts that appears.
    • Use the keypad to dial the number, and then click Call .
      To show the keypad, in the bottom right, click Dial .

      For international calls, enter the country code before the number (for example, +55 for Brazil).

In the upper right, the Call as field shows your Google Voice number.

2.2 Join a meeting

A meeting participant in Google Meet can invite you to join a meeting by calling your Voice number. When you answer the call, you're connected to the meeting. See Get started with Google Meet.

2.3 Call emergency services

You can get help in an emergency by calling your local emergency services number from Voice. Any phone, including mobile phones, can call emergency services and connect to emergency responders.
