What's supported in Outlook Calendar

Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook

Working in Outlook Calendar with Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook (GWSMO) is much the same as using Outlook with Microsoft Exchange. While using Outlook with GWSMO, you can:

  • Schedule any kind of event—This includes all-day events, a series of recurring meetings, public events, or private events.
  • Examine free/busy status for other users in your domain—View who's available when for a meeting. However, the following limitations apply when viewing free/busy status:
    • When scheduling a meeting, you can only view an invitee's availability for 28 days in the past and 56 days in the future. To work around this, add the invitees' calendars as additional calendars in Outlook.
    • You can view free/busy information for people in your domain who are still using Exchange if your administrator has turned on Google Calendar Connectors. For details, go to Administrator setup for GWSMO.
  • View all your Google Workspace calendars—This includes your primary calendar, calendars you create, and calendars other people have shared. If you track several calendars, you can pick the ones to view (which can improve performance in Outlook). For details, go to View and manage your calendars.
  • Delegate your calendar to an assistant—They can then manage your schedule on your behalf. For details, go to Delegate access to your calendar.
  • Share calendars with colleagues or customers—They get a view-only calendar you publish or they can add events to your calendar. For details, go to Share a calendar using GWSMO.
  • Use most of Outlook's other calendar features—Respond to invitations, get reminders, organize events using colored labels (Outlook 2003) or categories (Outlook 2007, 2010).

Note: While colored labels or categories can be used within Outlook with GWSMO, these don't sync with Google Workspace as Google Calendar event colors.
