Add advanced contact information

Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook

Your Global Address List (GAL) in Microsoft Outlook includes all users, groups, shared contacts, and resources defined for your Google Workspace domain. As users are added to Google Workspace, they automatically appear in Outlook.

Options for adding information

In addition, as an account administrator you can add contacts or customize fields using these methods:

  • Domain Shared Contacts API—This API allows client applications to retrieve and update external contacts shared with all users in a Google Workspace domain. All other Google services you're using have access to this contact list, as well.

Note: If you add users or update contacts using the Domain Shared Contacts API, your users' global addresses automatically update in Outlook. However, changes can take up to 24 hours to be reflected in the email address auto-complete and the GAL. If you recently added users who haven't yet become available, wait a bit longer and they should show up.

  • Google Cloud Directory Sync (GCDS)—Can be used to configure shared contacts based on fields available in your organization's LDAP server, such as Microsoft Active Directory or HCL Domino.
  • Google Workspace Marketplace—Offers another way to add custom fields. Use the marketplace to find business-oriented applications that integrate easily with Google Workspace.
