Accessibility on YouTube TV

The YouTube TV app works with certain accessibility features. Accessibility support is available for blind and low vision members via the TalkBack and BrailleBack apps.

Getting started

  • You can use YouTube TV on the iPhone or iPad app, or on a web browser on a computer. Instructions for signing up for YouTube TV and using the app can be found in the Help Center article sign up & customize YouTube TV.

  • Once you've signed up, open the app or use YouTube TV on a computer or laptop to get started. You'll be asked to sign in to the Google Account associated with your membership if you aren't already signed in.

Navigate the app

The main tabs in YouTube TV are Home, Library, and Live. You must be signed in to your account to see these tabs.
  • The Home tab is where you'll find recommendations for what to watch on YouTube TV. These recommendations are based on your watch history on YouTube TV and YouTube. You'll see a combination of live TV shows, on-demand programs, and YouTube videos.
  • Live is where you can scroll through networks (for example, Fox) to see which programs are on right now. Select any program to watch the live airing.
  • The Library tab is where you'll go to watch recordings of programs you've saved.

Notes:

  • In the YouTube TV mobile app, you can press down on your screen on any page to open a menu. The menu includes various actions, like adding a program to your library
  • You can scroll both vertically and horizontally in the YouTube TV app. Vertical scrolling will show you different types of programs and categories. Horizontal scrolling will show you related programs on a specific topic, like sports.

Turn on closed captions

Note: Some content owners may not have provided closed captions. If the content provider hasn't included captions, YouTube TV won't show any closed captions, even if this setting is turned on.
  • If closed captions are available, you'll see CC next to the progress bar in the video player (on a web browser) or in More  in the upper right corner of the video player (on a mobile device).
  • Select the CC button, and a list of available caption tracks will appear. Make your selection to turn on captions.
  • For on-demand programs, you can change how captions show in the video player by selecting the gear icon  and then Subtitles and then Options (on a web browser) or in Settings  and then Captions (on a mobile device).
  • For live programs, closed captions are fixed—just like on broadcast TV—and you can't change how they show.
  • Closed captions are not available on the mini-player on your mobile device or in a collapsed video view on a web browser.
