When building an upload schedule, it’s important to review and consider:

  • Frequency: How often do you upload Shorts per day/week/month? Is this frequency sustainable over the long term? Do you have a structure for what comes when?
  • Consistency: Are you consistent about both your Shorts upload and content schedules? Will you link content to specific days of the week? Have you taken any breaks or made changes in the last 6 months?
  • Content Volume: Is there a particular Shorts format, series, or content type that you’re producing more of vs. another?

Look at the efficiency of each type of content:

  • Monetary Cost vs. Return
Review the monetary cost to produce individual Shorts and compare it to both the viewership and revenue they generate. RPM is a great metric for tracking revenue.
  • Time to Produce
Shorts are 60 seconds or less videos that should be easy to produce and engage with your audience. How much time will you put into creating each Short?

Adamsheey's scripted Short has a broad appeal to viewers but might have higher preparation and production time compared to other Shorts.

ReaganBaylee's storytime Short reached mass appeal and is relatively quick and easy to produce.

Final considerations:

Are there other elements that you could build into your programming schedule?

  • Notable dates, such as local or global holidays
  • Relevant releases or movie premieres
  • Content collaborations
  • Your vacation or breaks

Remember that your upload schedule doesn’t just have to include Shorts content. Think about how to maintain consistent interaction between Shorts uploads without overwhelming your audience.

  • Video
  • Live
  • Community Tab Polls

Once you have considered what content you’ll create to meet your goals and how often, create your upload schedule for the coming weeks or months.

Things to keep in mind

  • Think through ways to make producing content easier. Consider filming Shorts in batches and saving in-progress Shorts as drafts whenever possible.

We recommend

  • Use YouTube Shorts tools to facilitate your creation and uploads. Turn clips of your on-demand videos into Shorts or reply to comments posted on your channel with Shorts. Both are good ways to produce high-frequency, low-production value content.
  • Saving Shorts as Drafts allows you to create various Shorts at once and return to upload when you are ready.
