Easier way to block comments with links from your videos

Hi Creators,

We've heard from many of you that comments with links on your videos are often low quality, and you’d like a better way to moderate these. Today, we’re making it easier for you to block comments that contain links and hashtags with a new setting in Creator Studio. If you enable this setting, comments on your videos that contain links will be sent to your Held for Review queue before being published. Learn how to moderate and review comments that have been held for review.

Here are step-by-step instructions for enabling this feature:

  1. Go to your Creator Studio.

  2. Go to your channel's Community settings by selecting Community > Community settings in the left menu.

  3. Go to Block Links and check the box to automatically hold new comments with URLs for review.

The setting will only apply to comments made after the setting is selected, so you may still have to manually manage comments with links made before you enabled this feature.

Hope you enjoy the update,

Marissa

Thanks Marissa. Does this block apply fuzzing to link detection so that comments like these with commas instead of periods are detected as links? https://plus.google.com/+ArtemRussakovskii/posts/VUZBx4EUhHD

At last an actual useful feature introduced... and now I can get rid of all those spamming comments riddled with those damned annoying "HashTags"... :-)

Now if only you'd fix the other three main issues many people have with the commenting system, namely the number of  of "supposed" posts in our "Held for Review" and "Likely Spam" folders that when you go to those folders no posts can be found despite the tabs saying there as X amount of posts in them...

And those blue banners often found under our videos that say some posts are being held for review but when you click on the link for that banner it takes you to the "Held For Review" folder/ tab for that video and there are no posts to be seen there...

And thirdly fix the glaring "flaw" in the posting system that many "Spammers" have become wise to that allows them to post on someones channel but the owner of that channel can't actually delete their posts (I won't post the method they use here as it would just tempt other to try it) but it's a major flaw that needs fixing ASAP, and even though there is a method to delete those posts I won't post that solution in public as of course that would help those spammers to get round that only current solution there is until YouTube themselves fix this glaring oversight in the system which "Spammers" have discovered to enable their posts not to be deleted by the channel owner...

Levels

Member levels indicate a user's level of participation in a forum. The greater the participation, the higher the level. Everyone starts at level 1 and can rise to level 10. These activities can increase your level in a forum:

  • Post an answer.
  • Having your answer selected as the best answer.
  • Having your post rated as helpful.
  • Vote up a post.
  • Correctly mark a topic or post as abuse.

Having a post marked and removed as abuse will slow a user's advance in levels.
