New YouTube Player w/ Dark Frame & Minimized Controls

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know about a new video player design we launched on the video watch page today. The player is designed to place greater emphasis on the video you are watching by allowing more space for videos to play. While watching videos, you will now notice:

** A dark control bar
** Minimized controls while watching a video

The controls will disappear while watching videos and a thinner bar will indicate where you are within the video. To view the controls at any time, simply move your cursor over the video.

As noted in the Help Center article (URL below) annotations placed at the very bottom of a video will be visible when the controls are minimized, but will not be clickable when the controls expand. When uploading videos, please avoid placing annotations at the very bottom for this reason. Please play around with the player in order to find the best way to use annotations! We hope you enjoy the new player!

Cheers,

Alyssa

Because many of us have hundreds of videos with annotations on them can you please fix the bug where the annotations can still be clickable even if they are down at the bottom.  The process of going through hundreds of videos or thousands for some can be pretty challenging.

I for one am nearing my absolute breaking point with the needless FORCED design changes that do not allow people who have supported both Google and Youtube for years to disable. Change is one thing, yes, but change that is forced and only conveys your OPINION on that the experience will be better is terrible.

STAND UP PEOPLE, LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD! OPTIONAL CHANGE!

Hi HappyCabbie-- I definitely understand what you are saying and we are actively working to address this and I will report back when we know more! In the meantime, I would encourage new uploaders to experiment with annotation placement.

Yea, reply to him but don't even give my comment a second thought. I am not just some angry person, ranting on. I am a logical person with cold logical thoughts. Absolutely nothing in this world is stopping you guys from making every one of these design changes optional. Its all just for flare anyways and serves no purpose but to make those who do not like feel powerless to stop it.

I really hate to sound stupid here but I HAVE to say it, every one of these changes has made me have a mini panic attack to know that I am completely helpless to stop these changes that I don't like. Yea, I could change services but with that I would lose a good deal of the channels I like watching on the regular, and that upsets me. You are making your user base hate you more and more everyday. Please, I BEG of you, make these things optional.

Allowing video to expand to full frame, with mouse over to bring controls back, is great for embedded videos, thanks for the improvement guys. I just want to watch the video content, even a slimmed down progress bar is obtrusive.
