Manage restrictions on your content

Restrictions may prevent viewers from watching your videos or seeing your posts. Restrictions could also impact video monetisation when you're in the YouTube Partner Programme. For example, a video might not be appropriate for viewers under 18 or there could be a pending copyright issue.

Check restrictions on your video

YouTube Studio app for Android

1. Open the YouTube Studio app .
2. From the bottom menu, tap Content .
3. In the Videos tab, find and select the video with a restriction. To filter your videos, tap Filter  and select your filter(s) under Restrictions:
   • Made for Kids: Made for Kids (set by you), Set to Made for Kids (by YouTube), Not Made for Kids or Not set.
4. On the Details page, select Restrictions to get a summary of your video restriction and check status.
   • For age restriction and ad suitability, you can submit an appeal. For copyright claims, you can dispute the claim.

Copyright

If you upload a video that contains copyright-protected content, your video could get a Content ID claim or be removed due to a copyright removal request.

Terms and policies

If your video or post is taken down, limited or made private by YouTube, you'll see 'Terms and policies' in the 'Restrictions' column. For example, you may see a Terms and policies issue if:

• Your video or post contains inappropriate content that violates our Community Guidelines.
• You artificially increased your view count.
• You violated the YouTube Terms of Service.
• Your video is a copy of another video that was removed due to a valid copyright removal request.
• We get a legal complaint about your video or post, such as a trademark issue.

Age restrictions

If your video isn't appropriate for viewers under 18, it may be considered age-restricted content.

Made for Kids

If your content is set as Made for Kids, we'll restrict certain features to comply with applicable laws.

Ad suitability

If you're in the YouTube Partner Programme and your content is identified as not suitable for most advertisers, your video may run limited or no ads.

Where can I get more info about why my video was prevented from being uploaded?

You can find more info in YouTube Studio: From the left menu, select Content. In the Restrictions column, hover over Terms and policies. The pop-up will tell you that your video could not be uploaded as it contains a copy of content from a video that we've previously removed due to a copyright removal request. It will show you who issued the copyright removal request, when the request was received and the title of the claimant's copyright-protected work. We'll also send you an email when your video is prevented from being uploaded, which will include this info.
