Premieres

YouTube Premieres lets you and your viewers watch and experience a new video together. It's like a movie or TV show premiere. Premiering your video lets you schedule a video upload and create buzz around the video with a shareable watch page.

Note: Premieres can only be created using a computer, but viewers can watch the premiere on any platform like a computer, iOS, Android and mWeb.

When you premiere a new video

Before the premiere starts:

  • A public watch page is created. The video will eventually be premiered on this watch page.
  • Viewers who choose to get notifications  get a tune-in notification around 30 minutes before the start of your premiere. A second notification is sent at the start, letting viewers know that the premiere is starting. Learn more about managing notifications.
  • You can interact with your audience in comments and live chat. You can also interact in Super Chat when it's turned on.
Viewers can set reminders for premieres. Encourage them to set a reminder on the watch page with a pinned comment or in the description. You can also remind them through chat.

When the premiere starts:

  • A countdown will appear during the first two minutes of the premiere. When the countdown has finished, viewers watch the video together in real time.
    • Viewers can't scrub forwards, but they can scrub backwards during the stream.
    • The concurrent viewers count shows the number of viewers watching.
  • You can interact with your audience in comments and live chat. You can also interact in Super Chat when it's turned on.

When the premiere is over:

  • The video remains on your channel as a regular upload.
Note: After the premiere, the countdown won't be included in your video.
  • Chat replay is available for viewers who want to experience the premiere chat after it has ended. You can turn off chat at any time.

Premiere watch page

Once a premiere has been scheduled, a shareable and public watch page is created. This page shows the video metadata, including title, description and thumbnail. Your video will eventually premiere on this watch page. Viewers can start interacting through comments and live chat before and during the premiere.

Promote your watch page:

  • Have clear metadata about the video. Read our policy on metadata.

  • Make a custom thumbnail. This thumbnail is the main image that viewers see when they visit the watch page.

  • Tease the video. Share the watch page URL in a Community post or on social networks. Learn how to create a Community post.

  • Make an appearance. Let the viewers know in the comments if you're going to be there during the premiere to chat.

Respond directly to someone in chats by typing '@' and their username.

Monetising your premiere

There are a few ways you can earn money from premiering your video:
Ads:
  • Channels with monetisation set up on YouTube will be able to serve automatic pre-roll ads during the premiere. Mid-roll ads are not available during the premiere.
  • Once the premiere has finished, both automatic pre-roll ads and mid-roll ads will work as they do on regular uploads.

Learn how to turn on ads on your video.

Super Chat and Super Stickers:

Super Chat and Super Stickers are ways to connect fans with creators during live chat. You can purchase Super Chats to highlight your message within live chat. You can turn on Super Chat and Super Stickers with viewers before and during the premiere.

If eligible, you can take advantage of channel membership perks like a members-only chat. You'll also get perks like custom emoji and loyalty badges.
