Breaking news and top news on YouTube

Breaking news information panel in Search

An information panel providing breaking news may appear when there is a significant news event. When there is this sort of news, we may provide developing stories from news sources that follow Google News content policies. The information panel will also link directly to the news website, so that you can easily access and read the full article about the event.

Breaking News shelf on the homepage

A Breaking News shelf appears on the YouTube homepage, except for users under 18. When there is a significant news event, the breaking news shelf on the homepage can be found by scrolling down the YouTube homepage. The breaking news shelf on the homepage is dismissible if a user is not interested.

This is different from the information panel providing breaking news context in search results, as the info panel will only include text-based snippets from a news article, while the content on the homepage will include YouTube videos when available.

Top news shelf in Search

A Top News shelf in Search shows up if you look for news for which we have relevant content from news sources that follow Google News content policies. The Top News shelf will show up regardless of age.

Top news shelf on your homepage

A top news shelf on your homepage may show if you watch or search for news content. The top news shelf will show up regardless of age, and will include relevant content from news sources that follow Google News content policies.

The channels featured in YouTube News shelves and panels only include news sites that follow Google News content policies. If you’re a publisher interested in being eligible for YouTube’s news products, you can submit your YouTube channel to Google News via the Google Publisher Center.
