Fix a hacked YouTube account

If you notice any of the following, your Google Account may have been hacked, hijacked, or compromised:

  • Changes you didn’t make: Your profile picture, descriptions, email settings, AdSense association, or sent messages are different.
  • Uploaded videos that aren't yours: Someone has posted videos as your Google Account. You may get email notifications about these videos for penalties or strikes against bad content.

  1. Follow the steps to recover your Google Account or Gmail.
  2. Reset your password when prompted. Choose a strong password that you haven't already used with this account. Learn how to create a strong password.

Follow these steps to make your account more secure:

  1. Go to your Google Account.
  2. On the left navigation panel, click Security.
  3. Under "Signing in to Google," add recovery options to get back in to your account easily in the future. Learn how to set up recovery options.
    1. Turn on 2-Step Verification to add another layer of security to your account. Learn how to turn on 2-Step Verification.
    2. If you use Gmail, check your filters and forwarding settings. Make sure your mail isn't being forwarded to an email address you didn't set up.
