Different YouTube app versions on TV

The YouTube on TV experience is an optimised version of YouTube that makes it easy to find and watch high-quality YouTube videos on your television. Find out more about YouTube on TV.


YouTube is available on many different television devices, including smart TVs, media streaming devices, Google TV, Android TV and some Apple TVs.  

Your experience watching YouTube on TV will differ based on the YouTube app that's running on your smart TV or media streaming device. To find out which YouTube app you're using, see the images below to identify which app best resembles your experience. 

Note: Make sure that your YouTube app is up to date by going to the Google Play Store.
YouTube on newer smart TVs and media devices
The latest version of the YouTube app is available on 2013 and later device models, as well as select 2012 device models.
YouTube on Android TV

If you have a device running Android TV, the YouTube app will be available in your apps list by default.

YouTube app version 1.0 for Android TV is no longer supported.

YouTube on Apple TV
If you own a fourth-generation Apple TV or newer, the YouTube app will be available for install from the app store.

If you own a third-generation Apple TV, the YouTube app will be available in your main menu by default.

Second generation and older Apple TVs no longer have a supported YouTube app
