Your streaming quality impacts the viewing experience. Here are some quick tips to help you get started.Network tips
- The total bitrate you're streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available. Leave a bit of room (20% recommended).
- Your office may have a high speed connection, but if 1000 people are sharing that network, your individual bandwidth may be limited.
- Run a speed test. Inbound bandwidth (download speed) is often greater than outbound (upload). Make sure your outbound connection is enough to send your stream bitrate. Primary + Backup + 20% is recommended.
- Make sure you are on a reliable network. A disruption on your connectivity = a broken stream.
- Configure encoder(s) for live event at least 2 hours in advance.
- Start encoder(s) at least 15 minutes before event is scheduled to start.
- Before clicking Start Streaming, check the preview in Live Control Room.
- Test encoder failover (if applicable). Stop the primary encoder (or unplug its ethernet cable) and make sure the player rolls over to backup encoder.
- Verify the integrity of all local archive files. Check that file size of local archive is growing.
- Verify that the event is accessible via channel and watch pages.
- Verify that the event is accessible via mobile devices (if applicable).
- Continuously monitor stream(s) for A/V quality, audio sync, and audio levels.
- After your event has stopped on YouTube, stop the encoder.
- You can stream with a laptop and webcam. However, better equipment results in a better live stream quality.
- You will need a software encoding program like Wirecast or Flash Media Live Encoder (FMLE).
- For higher production value events, we recommend professional-grade hardware encoders.
- Make sure you thoroughly test your setup prior to your event.
