Why do analytics matter?

If you want to grow your audience on YouTube, it’s critical that you understand how your channel is performing. YouTube Analytics is a helpful tool that shows you channel data that can help inform your content strategy.

YouTube Analytics allows you to measure your progress toward success. Here are a few key questions that can help you learn more about your channel:

  • How is my channel doing? You can use the Overview tab to check your watch time, views, subscribers to see if you’re making progress against the goals you set.
  • How engaged is my audience? You can use the Content tab to check if your audience is watching your content and liking your content. You can also find out how much your viewers watch and what piques their interest within each type of video.
  • Who is watching? The Audience tab gives you a summary of the sort of viewers watching your videos. Including how many returning and new viewers, unique viewers, subscribers, and total members your channel has.
  • How much money am I making with my channels? You can use the Revenue tab to find out which videos are earning the most money and which revenue sources are most profitable.
  • What is my audience interested in? The Inspiration tab gives you a summary of what your audience and viewers across YouTube are searching for.

Don’t worry about not having all the answers immediately. Use these questions as guides to help you get started on exploring what these numbers could do for you.

We recommend:

  • Browse through the analytics tabs to get a sense of the different metrics you can view.
  • Keep a list of all the questions that come to you about channel performance so you can remember to keep learning.
