Turn Google Now on or off

You can get Now cards, short snippets of useful information, when you're using the Google app on your Android device, iPhone, or iPad. You can choose whether or not you want to see these cards by turning Now cards on or off.

When you turn Now cards off, you won't see Now cards in the Google app, but you can still use the app to search.

Android

Turn Now cards on or off

  1. Open the Google Settings app .
  2. Touch Search & Now > Now cards.
  3. Turn "Show cards" on.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the setup.

Note: If you skip turning on the Google Account settings that make Google Now work best, you might be prompted to turn them on later. For example, if you try to say "Ok Google," you'll be prompted to turn on the Voice & Audio Activity setting.

If you see this message, you’re using Google for Work and your system administrator has turned off Google Now for your organization. Before you can use it, your administrator needs to turn it on for your organization.

I turned on Now cards, but I still don’t get notifications

If you aren't getting notifications for your Now cards, follow the instructions below to fix the issue:

  1. Open the Google app .
  2. In the top left corner of the page, touch the Menu icon menu icon > Settings.
  3. Touch Now cards.
  4. Turn on Show notifications for card updates.
iPhone or iPad
  1. Open the Google app .
  2. Touch the gear icon Settings in the top left corner of the home screen > Google Now. (If you’re in Google Now, scroll down to get back to the home screen.)
  3. Next to "Now," touch ON or OFF.
  4. Touch Done.
I turned on Google Now, but I still don’t get notifications

If you aren't getting Google Now notifications unless you're inside of the Google app, follow the instructions below to fix the issue:

  1. Close the Google app.
  2. Open your iPhone or iPad's Settings app .
  3. Touch Notification Center.
  4. Scroll down until you see Google  in the list of apps.
  5. Touch Google .
  6. Set the Alert Style to "Banners."
  7. In the "Alerts" section:
    • Set "Show in Notification Center" to ON.
    • Set "Show in Lock Screen" to ON.

If you don’t see this prompt, follow the instructions below:

  1. Close the Google app.
  2. Open the Settings app  > Notification Center.
  3. Scroll down until you see Google in the list of apps.
  4. Touch Google .
  5. Set the Alert Style to "Banners."
  6. In the "Alerts" section, turn on Show in the Notification Center and Show on Lock Screen.

Google Now with work or school accounts
