Fetch as Google Quota Weekly o Monthly

I've read the FAQs and searched the help center.
My URL is: www.33mileradius.com

I've read online that the Fetch as Google quota is 500 and resets weekly.

See:

"You have a weekly quota of 500 fetches. Once you have 100 fetches remaining, a notification appears below the fetch form to indicate you are approaching your fetch quota limit."

However, in my GWT account, it shows a monthly quota of 500.

Can someone explain this to me?

Thank you,

Matt

I would guess the help page is just outdated. They changed the quota but didnt update the help page.

Hi Matt
There's a different quota for fetching (just looking at the page) compared to submitting it to indexing. That's where this difference comes from. In general, you don't need to resubmit pages for indexing manually when things change, we do that automatically anyway. I'd recommend only using that if there's something critical that you need to have reflected in search faster than usual.

Hi John

Thank you for your reply.

Let's assume I've added 1,000 new pages for products or whatever. Not only would I want to fetch them, I'd want to submit them to the index too correct?

I was under the impression fetch was informative (making sure things are good with the page) whereas submit to index actually alerted Google more quickly about the new page or an existing page that had a major updated to its content.

Is there a weekly fetch limit and a monthly submit to index limit? Both 500?

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt

In a case like that, I'd just make sure they're all listed in your sitemap file and submit that normally through Webmaster Tools. Doing this manually in Webmaster Tools is a lot of work, and won't really give your site any additional advantage in that regard. Sitemaps are really well-suited for general changes or additions to your website, they really help us to figure out where to crawl your site next. Most CMS and shop systems support sitemaps automatically, so you most likely don't even need to do anything at all for that to happen :).

Cheers
John
