Play music

Enjoy your ride while you play music from a selection of iHeartRadio stations on the passenger screen. You can also play music or audio directly from your phone.

From the passenger screen

Tap Music on the menu to choose from a selection of genres on iHeartRadio, like Pop, EDM, Jazz, and more.

From your phone

How you play audio differs between iOS and Android devices, so choose the right instructions below to get started.

You can’t make phone calls or watch videos through the car, but you can listen to many popular audio apps.

Give music permission

Open the Waymo One app and give us access to your Google Account.

To let us play music from your phone to the car:

  1. Open the Waymo One app on your phone
  2. Tap Account in the lower right corner
  3. Select Music and give us permission

We’ll only use your Google account to play something in the car while you’re riding. If you want to revoke access at any time, follow the steps above and toggle the permission off.

Set up Google Assistant to play your favorites

To start listening, take a few minutes to set up the Google Assistant app.

If you don’t already have the app, you’ll need to download it to play audio to the car speakers. You’ll only have to do this once.

Download Google Assistant

Download the Google Assistant app in the App Store.

  1. Open the App Store
  2. Search for “Google Assistant”
  3. Tap “Google Assistant”
  4. Tap GET to download the app

When you log into Google Assistant, be sure to use the same email you use to log into the Waymo One app.

Listen to something using Google Assistant

To listen to something in the car, you’ll open the Google Assistant app and tell it what you want to hear. Select the Mic button and say the name of a genre or related artist and the words “on Waymo.”

Example voice commands

Remember to always end voice commands with the words “on Waymo.”

  • Play “pop” on Waymo
  • Play “hip hop” on Waymo
  • Play “jazz” on Waymo

Be sure to say "on Waymo" at the end of your audio command so music plays through the car speakers.

To listen to specific songs, link premium services

When you ask to hear a song, Google Assistant will automatically start a playlist of similar music. To request and hear the exact song you want, link a premium account for a listening service, like YouTube Music.
