Transfer a pass or card on Google Wallet

If you get a new device or use multiple devices, you may be able to transfer a pass or card on Google Wallet between devices.

Transfer a pass or card connected to your device

Important: Certain passes or cards can be added to multiple devices and transferring may not be required.

Some passes and cards can only be saved to one device. When you sign in to Google Wallet on a new device, the following passes and cards won’t automatically appear:

  • Credit or debit card
  • Transit pass
  • Mobile drivers license
  • ID pass
  • Student IDs
  • Corporate badge
  • Digital car key
  • Residential key
  • Private pass

Tip:

To use the pass or card on another device, you may need to use one of the transfer methods below.

Device to device transfer method

Important: The device to device transfer method is only available for certain passes or cards.

This method allows you to transfer passes directly from an old device.

On your new device, follow these instructions to transfer your data.

Tip: Ensure that the Google Wallet app is selected when you transfer apps and data to a new device.

Cloud restore method

Important: The cloud restore transfer method is only available for certain passes or cards.

This method allows you to copy data from a backup that’s saved in cloud storage.

  1. You must first back up your phone to your Google Account. Learn how to back up data on your Android device.
  2. On your new device, follow these instructions to restore your data.

Tip: You can use this option when you don’t have your old device physically available.

Manual transfer method

Important: Manual transfers are available for certain passes or cards. For passes and cards that can be added to multiple devices, a transfer may not be required.

To transfer certain passes or cards manually, delete them first from the Google Wallet app on the old device. Once removed, you can directly add them to the Google Wallet app on the new device.

To delete pass from your old device:

  1. On your old device, open the Google Wallet app .
  2. Find the item you want to remove.
  3. Tap the pass.
  4. At the top right, tap More More and then Remove.

To add pass to your new device:

  1. Open the Google Wallet app .
  2. At the bottom, tap Add to Wallet .
  3. Select the type of item you want to add.
  4. To add the item to Google Wallet, follow the on-screen instructions.

Tips:

Transfer a pass or card connected to your Google Account

Some passes and cards are saved to your Google Account. When you sign in to Google Wallet on a new device with your account, the following passes and cards will automatically appear:

  • Loyalty and gift cards
  • Event tickets
  • Boarding passes

Tip: These passes and cards can be stored on multiple devices at the same time.

What happens if I factory reset my phone?

If you factory reset your phone, the Google Wallet data on your device will be deleted.

However, most cards or passes can be restored during device setup. To restore, follow the cloud or device to device process on your phone:
