Ask for a Google Voice or classic Hangouts refund

You can ask for a refund for some Google Voice calls and balances within 6 months of your original purchase. In addition, if your Google Voice account was migrated to an account managed by your organization, you can request a refund for the credit balance on your account.

  1. On your computer, open Google Voice.
  2. At the top right, click Settings.
  3. On the left, click Payments.
  4. Click Billing history and then Refund balance. Google Voice will look different, but you're in the right place.
  5. Select a refund for your entire balance or a single call:
    • Refund entire balance: Click the Request refundand thenRequest refund.
    • Refund a single call: From the Get call credit box under Recent calls click Get creditand thenpick a reason for requesting a refundand thenRequest refund.

Refund currencies

Google Voice only uses certain currencies. If you request a refund, you will be reimbursed in one of these currencies.

Refunds not available

You cannot get a refund for:

  • Free promotions
  • 30 or fewer days since your last refund request
  • Credit transfers between Google Accounts
  • $10 fee to change your Google Voice number
  • $20 fee to transfer your number to Google Voice
  • $20 fee to keep your original Google Voice number when you also port your number from a cell phone service company
  • $3 fee to transfer your number out of Google Voice

How long refunds take

Refunds take different amounts of time depending on the type of refund and how you paid.

  1. When you request a full credit refund, an email will be sent to the Voice account holder confirming the requested refund amount.
  2. Google Pay will then attempt to refund your credit by reversing prior Google Voice transactions.
  3. If there are issues with refunding prior transactions, you will receive an email from Google Pay with information on how to resolve these issues.

The following timelines are estimates only.

  • Refund for a call: Within minutes
  • Refund current balance: Up to 10 business days
    Refund timelines depend on your bank or credit card company. If your credit card isn't active, refunds will go to the company that issued your card. Contact the company to recover funds.
  • Manual refund: 14 business days after we receive your refund form
