Transfer your Google Voice number

  • This information applies only to personal Google Voice accounts.
  • If you have a Google Voice for Google Workspace account managed by your work or school, contact your administrator to port your number.
  • If you're a Google Workspace administrator who wants to port your organization's phone numbers, go to Port business numbers to Voice for Google Workspace.
  • Minors' accounts can't put a port request on their account.

Transfer your Google Voice number to a different Google Account

You can also move your Google Voice number to another Google Account.

  • Only your Google Voice number transfers to the new account.
  • Your call history and voicemails don’t transfer to the new account.
  • You can only transfer your number once every 4 months.

What you can't transfer

You can’t transfer:

  • As Google Voice is intended for use in the US, number transfer requests must be done while in the US.
  • A second Google Voice number to a Google Account that already has a Google Voice number.
  • A Google Voice number to a Google Account that hasn't accepted the Google Terms of Service.
  • A Google Voice number if you've recently deleted a number and got a new number.
    • Tip: Before you can transfer a number, you must wait 90 days.
  • A Google Voice number that’s:
    • Unlocked
    • Reserved for a voice partner application
  • A personal Google Voice account number to:
    • A Voice for Google Workspace account number, such as one managed by your work or school.
    • Any other type of Google Account, including personal accounts and accounts that use a different Google Workspace domain.
    • Another Google Voice account that already accepted 3 transfer requests within a 12-month period.
  • From a Google Voice account that:
    • Is active for less than a week.
    • Has recently deleted a Google Voice phone number.
    • Already has a pending number transfer request.
    • Has sent out one successful request within a 4-month period.
    • Has held the transferring number for less than 3 months.
  • Your account information, including your:
    • Settings
    • Voicemail
    • Call history
    • Text messages
    • Linked numbers
To export all your information, learn how to download your data. There's no process to import your account information into another Google Voice account. You must view the information in the same original Google Voice account.

Transfer to another Google Account (ends in @gmail.com)

  1. On your computer, open Google Voice.
  2. At the top right, click Settings and then Settings.
  3. Click the Account section.
  4. In the "Transfer your number to another Voice account" section, click Transfer a number.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Tip: If the transfer request doesn’t work, check the list of what you can't transfer.
    • Another Google Voice account gets your request by email and must accept it within 7 days.
    • You can check the number transfer progress in the "Transfer your number to another Voice account" section.
    • Before the transfer finishes, to cancel the number transfer request, you can click Cancel the request.
  6. After the transfer finishes, in the new Google Voice account, add the new number.

If you already tried to transfer your number, but your number doesn’t work, create a post on the Google Voice Help Forum. When you post:

  • Use the Google Account with your original Google Voice number.
  • Only include the last 4 digits of your Google Voice number.

Accept transfer from another account

  • If you already have a Google Voice number(s) and want to accept the number transfer, delete all the current Google Voice numbers. Then, in the "Transfer your number to another Voice account" section in "Account Settings," click Accept.
  • If you don’t have a Google Voice account, register for a Google Voice account and skip the step "Select a Google Voice number."
  • If you have multiple number transfer requests, you can accept only one number transfer. Other requests to transfer a number are declined.
