Port business numbers to Voice for G Suite

Covid-19 update: Due to the COVID-19 situation, there are restrictions on number porting in Spain, Portugal, and France. This might create delays in completing your port orders. Currently, there are no restrictions on the other supported countries in Europe, but this could change. Check back here for further updates.

If your organization has existing phone numbers with another service provider, you can port those numbers to Google Voice. If you don't need to port numbers, go to Step 6. Assign Voice numbers to users.

Before you begin

  • Don't cancel your existing service until Voice notifies you that the number port is complete. 
  • Cancel any open service requests with your current provider.
  • Find a recent copy of a billing statement from your current service provider for information to complete your port request.
  • Get a list of the phone numbers you're porting. Make sure your service provider has unlocked the numbers.
  • Remove any special features, such as DSL internet or hunt groups. Voice does not support these features.
  • Create a separate port request for each service provider you're porting from.
  • All phone numbers in your port request must be associated with the main billing phone number on the service provider account you're porting from.

Limits on the numbers you can port

You can't port these phone numbers:

  • Toll-free numbers
  • Nongeographical (nomadic) numbers in EU
  • Numbers from unmanaged accounts to managed Voice for G Suite accounts
  • Numbers between different G Suite domains
  • Numbers outside the Voice coverage area, even if in a supported country or region
  • Numbers from multiple service providers, unless you create separate port requests

    (All numbers in a request must belong to the same service provider.)

Port phone numbers to Google Voice for G Suite

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

    Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. From the Admin console Home page, go to Appsand thenG Suiteand thenGoogle Voiceand thenService Management.
  3. Click Number porting.
  4. At the top of the Number porting page, click Create port order.
  5. In the Port name field, enter a name to identify your port request.
  6. Next to Country of service, click the Down arrow Down Arrow and select your country or region from the list.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Under Identify your primary contact, enter the name and phone number of the person to contact about this port request.
  9. Under Enter port details, fill in the request form using a recent billing statement from your current service provider. The fields vary based on the country or region. Refer to the service provider fields below.
  10. Check the I authorize Google Voice boxand thenclick Continue.
  11. In the List numbers section, enter the numbers you want to port.
    • Landline or VoIP—Enter up to 500 phone numbers, separated by commas. For a number range, enter a starting and ending number separated by a hyphen. Include the country code for each number. For example, the country code for the U.S. is 1.
    • Wireless—Verify the number you're porting. You can port only one wireless number per request. Wireless number porting is only available in the U.S.
  12. In the Activation date field, click to open a calendar and choose the date to finish porting the number.

    Note: Some countries or regions might not be able to choose an activation date.

    When you choose an activation date:

    • The earliest date the port can finish is the default date, and it varies by country or region. Refer to the service provider fields below.
    • The activation date cannot be more than 60 days after the date you make the request or on weekends or local holidays.
    • Port requests should finish by the end of the scheduled activation date or the following business day.  
    • When the port is complete, you’ll no longer have service with your previous provider. To resume service, assign the numbers within Google Voice.
  13. Click Continue.
    Voice validates the information you entered.
  14. Review the information that appears.
    • To make changes, click Edit Edit.
    • To review the numbers, click Expand Expand.

      If your country or region requires authorization, a note requests the required documentation. To get a copy of the authorization template, click Download or wait until you finish the port request. For details, see Submit a letter of authorization below.

  15. Click Continue.
  16. Click Create Port Request.

The Number porting page shows the status of your port request. After porting, or if problems arise in porting the numbers, Voice sends an email to the primary contact.

Review port requests

To review your port request, at the top, click Tasks Tasksand thenView details.

Submit a letter of authorization

If your country or region requires a letter of authorization:

  1. On the Number porting page, click your port request.
  2. Next to Required documentation, click Expand Expand.
  3. To print the authorization template, click Download template.
  4. Complete and sign a copy of the letter of authorization.
  5. To upload the authorization letter, click Upload Signed Document.
  6. Click Submit for Review.

After porting 

The ported phone numbers aren't active and can't be called until you assign the numbers to users. To activate your numbers, go to Assign Voice numbers to users

You’ll have no service on your existing service provider. Assign the number in Voice to resume service.

Denmark

*Porting numbers into Google Voice is not yet supported in Canada.
