Port business numbers to Google Voice for G Suite

If your organization has existing phone numbers with another service provider, you can port those numbers to Google Voice. If you don't need to port numbers, go to Step 6. Assign Voice numbers to users.

Phone numbers you can't port

  • Toll-free numbers.
  • Non-geographical (nomadic) numbers in EU.
  • Numbers from unmanaged accounts to managed Voice for G Suite accounts. Learn about account types.
  • Numbers between different G Suite domains.
  • Numbers not within the Google Voice coverage area, even if in a supported country/region.
  • Numbers from multiple service providers, unless you create separate port requests. All numbers in a request need to belong to the same service provider.

Before you begin

  • Don't cancel your existing service until after Google Voice notifies you the number port is complete. If you have any open service requests with your current provider, cancel those requests.
  • Find a recent copy of a billing statement from your current service provider. You need the information on the statement to complete your port request.
  • Get a list of the phone numbers you're porting. Make sure your current service provider has unlocked the numbers.
  • Remove any special features, such as DSL internet or hunt groups. Google Voice does not support these features.
  • Create a separate port request for each service provider you're porting from.
  • All phone numbers in your port request need to be associated with the main billing phone number on the service provider account you're porting from.

Port phone numbers to Google Voice for G Suite

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

    Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. From the Admin console Home page, go to Appsand thenG Suiteand thenGoogle Voiceand thenService Management.
  3. Click Ports.
    The Ports window opens.
  4. In the top right, click Port Numbers.
  5. In the Port name field, enter a name to identify your port request.
  6. Next to Country of service, click the Down arrow Down Arrow and select your country/region from the list.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. In the Primary contact fields, enter the name and phone number of the person to contact about this port request.
  9. Under Enter port details, fill in the request form using a recent billing statement from your current service provider. The fields depend on the country/region. Learn about the service provider fields below.
  10. Check the I agree to authorize Google Voice box.
  11. Click Continue.
  12. In the List numbers section, do an action based on the type of number:
    • Landline or VoIP—Enter up to 500 phone numbers, separated by commas. For a number range, enter a starting and ending number, separated by a hyphen. Include the country code for each number. For example, the country code for the U.S. is 1.
    • Wireless—Verify the number you're porting. You can port only one wireless number per request.
  13. In the Activation date field, click to open the calendar. Select the date you want the number port to complete.
    • The default date shown is the earliest date the port can complete.
    • The minimum time to port numbers is 10 business days and can take longer depending on the country/region. Refer to country/region tables below.
    • Date can't be on a weekend and can't be more than 60 days from today.
  14. Click Continue.
    Google Voice validates the information you entered.
  15. Review the information that displays.

    If your country/region requires authorization, a note requests the required documentation. To get a copy of the authorization template, click Download or wait until step 16.

    • To make changes, click Edit Edit.
    • To review the numbers, click Expand Expand.
  16. Click Continue.
    • The Ports page shows the status of your port request.
    • If there are any problems porting the numbers, Google Voice sends an email to the primary contact.
    • When the porting process is done, Google Voice sends an email to the primary contact.
  17. If your country/region requires a Letter of Authorization:
    1. On the Ports page, click your port request.
    2. Next to Required documentation, click Expand Expand.
    3. Click Download template to print the authorization template.
    4. Complete and sign a copy of the Letter of Authorization.
    5. Click Upload Signed Document to upload the authorization letter.
    6. Click Submit for Review.
  18. (Optional) To review your port request, in the top right, click Tasks Tasks, then click View details.

To activate your numbers after they've been successfully ported, follow the instructions in Step 6. Assign Voice numbers to users. The ported phone numbers aren't active and can't be called until you assign the numbers to users.

The information you need to enter about your current service depends on the country/region.

Denmark

  • Minimum time to port numbers is 13 business days.

  • Minimum time to port numbers is 18 business days.

City, State, Zip code City, state, and zip code of your organization's service address from the current service provider's billing statements.
Company name Your organization's name used for billing by the current service provider.

*Porting numbers into Google Voice is not yet supported in Canada or Ireland.
