Fix migration errors with rules

When you move over to the new Search Ads 360, your active, paused rules and scheduled edits will be migrated from the previous Search Ads 360. However, if there are any errors during migration, the rules will need to be edited and re-saved to fix.

This article applies to resolving errors in the rules migration to the new Search Ads 360. After the migration, the Rules page will become read-only in the previous Search Ads 360 and a detailed migration status will appear for each rule.

Before you begin

Rules have started to be migrated over to the new Search Ads 360 in phases and we have successfully migrated the majority of them. Due to changes in functionality, a small portion of active and paused rules won’t be able to migrate to the new experience. This will guide you through the steps to resolve these errors to complete a successful migration.

You can view the status of your rules migration in the Experience hub in the new Search Ads 360.

Important: At any given time, a rule is running on only one platform based on its migration status. Rules will continue to run in the previous experience until you resolve any migration errors in the new Search Ads 360.

Step-by-step resolution of rules errors

You will get a notification in both the new and previous Search Ads 360 informing you of rules that will be migrating to the new experience and relevant errors to fix. To resolve the rules errors follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Search Ads 360 experience.
  2. You will see a notification about migrated rules and recommended resolutions.
Optional: In the previous Search Ads 360, open the specific rule page to gather more information on the rule’s conditions, schedules and campaigns.
  3. Additional context on the error will be provided in the warning message.
  4. In the new Search Ads 360, open the specific rule page and edit according to the resolution table below.
  5. Once the error has been resolved, the migration status will change from migrated with errors to completed.
  6. In the new Search Ads 360 there will be additional information on the number of rules and scheduled edits that were successfully migrated. This number will update as errors are resolved.

Note: Rules that migrated with errors will continue to run in the previous Search Ads 360 but will be disabled for edits. Similar to other migrated rules, they will stop running in the previous Search Ads 360 after error resolution in the new Search Ads 360.

Types of migration errors and resolution

Below are expected errors and resolution plan for each.

Type of error Description Resolution Plan
Unsupported filters The rule contains unsupported filters that cannot be directly mapped to filters on the new Search Ads 360. Adjust by changing your filters to those available in the new Search Ads 360.
Missing entities The rule is configured to apply to campaigns, ad groups or other entities that aren’t found on the New Search Ads 360. Adjust by mapping to the new equivalent entities in the new Search Ads 360.
Missing actions The rule performs an action that is no longer supported on the new Search Ads 360.

Examples include:

  • Strategy changes for keywords, product group, ad group or device bid adjustments
  • Inventory Management actions
Remove the rule. There may be alternative actions available.

Keep in mind: If you encounter an error that is not in the above list, please contact support.

Uneditable filters

Your rule was successfully migrated and is running with all filters. However, some of your filters are no longer editable in the New Search Ads 360.

While your successfully migrated rules will continue to run with all Legacy SA360 filters, some filters may not be editable in the new SA360 experience. If you want to replace uneditable filters for these rules. You can reference the original legacy filters in the Legacy SA360 rule view.

Only editable filters will persist when a rule edit is saved. Be sure to replace all non editable filters that should remain on the rule when saving an edit.
