Find and set up devices near you

You can find and set up some devices close to you using your Pixel phone.

Important: Some of these steps may vary based on your device.

Set up new devices near you

Step 1: Set up your phone

  1. If you haven’t yet, on your phone:

Turn Bluetooth on or off from the Settings app

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Connected devices And then Connection preferences And then Bluetooth.
  3. Turn Use Bluetooth on or off.

Turn location on or off for your device

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Location.
    • If you have a work profile, tap Advanced.
  3. At the top, turn Use location on or off.

Tip: You can also turn your phone’s location on or off with Quick Settings. Learn more about Quick Settings.

  1. If you turned off device notifications, turn them on.

Turn notifications on or off

By default, you'll receive notifications for nearby devices that you can set up. If you turn off notifications, you can still find devices near you when you open your phone's Settings app.

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Google and then Devices and sharing and then Devices.
  3. Turn Scan for nearby devices on or off.

Step 2: Set up the new device

You can set up Chromecast, Wear OS watches, other Android phones and tablets or accessories that work with Fast Pair. Accessories that work with Fast Pair say so on their boxes. Many also say 'Made by Google' or 'Made for Google'. Find accessories in the Google Store.   
  1. Turn on a new device that isn't set up yet. Put the device in pairing mode.
  2. Turn on your phone's screen.
  3. On your phone, you’ll get a notification offering to set up the new device.
  4. Tap the notification.
  5. Follow the onscreen steps.

Fix problems setting up devices

Tip: Your phone can’t find and set up all devices automatically. If you don't find a device in your Settings app, try to connect in another way, like with Bluetooth. Learn how to turn on Bluetooth.
