Share your Google Photos library with a partner

You can share photos of specific people or select a date to share all photos from. Photos will be shared automatically as they are backed up to your account.

Before you get started

Download and install the Google Photos app.

Share your photos with a partner

You can share your library with only one person. 

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app
  2. Sign in with your Google Account.
  3. At the bottom right, tap Sharing People and then More More and then Set up shared libraries and then Get Started
  4. Enter or select an email address. You can only invite someone with a Google Account.
  5. Select which photos to add to your partner account.
  6. Tap Next.
  7. If everything looks right, tap Send invitation.
  8. Verify your identity and finish set up.
  9. Optional: To see your partner’s photos, ask them to share their library with you after they’ve accepted your invitation.

To share your library with a different person, or receive an invitation to view their library, stop sharing with your current partner

Filter by face groups

Face grouping technology isn’t perfect. Filtering by face groups may result in occasionally sharing photos that don’t actually have any of the people you’ve selected.

Filter by date

Sometimes, the date of the photo might be wrong. For example, if the photo was scanned, or the camera's clock wasn’t set correctly, a photo might have the wrong date. Filtering by date might result in occasionally sharing photos that aren’t within the date range chosen.

Accept a shared library

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in with the Google Account that was invited.
  3. At the bottom right, tap Sharing People
  4. Tap the invitation you want to accept. Then, tap Accept
  5. Optional: You can share your photo library back with your partner. Above "Shared library," tap their name. Then, tap More More and then Share back

Tip: If someone you don’t know shares their library with you, you can block them. Learn how to block a person.

See your partner’s photos

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in with your Google Account. 
  3. At the bottom right, tap Sharing People
  4. Above "Shared library," tap your partner's name. 

Save your partner's photos

If you save your partner’s photos, they’ll appear in your Google Photos library, search results and can be used for personalized creations.

Any photos you save from a shared library won’t take up storage, unless your partner stops sharing their library with you, or deletes the original copy.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app
  2. Sign in with your Google Account. 
  3. At the bottom right, tap Sharing People
  4. Above "Shared library," tap your partner's name. Then, tap More More and then Settings
  5. Tap Save to your library
    • All photos: Any photo in the shared library will be saved. 
    • Photos of specific people: Select from your face groups. When Google Photos recognizes any of those face groups from your partner’s photos, it’ll save the photos automatically to your Google Photos library.

If you didn’t save a photo from your partner’s shared library, and your partner deletes it from their Photos account, it will also be deleted from the shared library.

Delete photos recently saved from your partner

If you delete a photo saved from your partner’s shared library, it won’t be deleted from your partner’s account.

  1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com/search/_tra_. This page will have any recently added photos, including photos you’ve added from your partner.
  2. Select the photo you want to delete.
  3. Click Trash .

Turn off notifications

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in with the Google Account that was invited.
  3. At the bottom right, tap Sharing People
  4. Above "Shared library," tap your partner's name. Then, tap More More and then Settings
  5. Turn off Notifications.

Remove partner

If you remove your partner, it will stop sharing your library to your partner. It will also stop your partner from sharing their library with you, but it won’t remove any photos that you’ve saved to your Google Photos library.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in with the Google Account that was invited.
  3. At the bottom right, tap Sharing People
  4. Above "Shared library," tap your partner's name. Then, tap More More and then Settings and then Remove partner and then Remove

Stop sharing your library

If you and your partner share libraries with each other, you can stop sharing your library at any time. You’ll still be able to see their shared library. Any photos your partner saved to their library aren’t removed.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in with the Google Account that was invited.
  3. At the bottom right, tap Sharing People
  4. Next to your partner's name, tap More More and then Stop sharing your library
