Send & receive money with Gmail

You can use Gmail to send money to any email address for free. (It doesn’t have to be a Gmail address.) You can also accept money someone sent you or request money from someone using Gmail.

Note: This feature is not available on Gmail Go.

This feature is only available in the US. For the US territories, this is supported only if the debit card was issued under a US-licensed bank.

If you'd like to know in advance whether your payment to or from a US territory will go through please check with your card issuing bank

Note: Sending and receiving money from the Gmail Android app is only available in the US.

Send money with Gmail

  1. Open Gmail Gmail.
  2. In the bottom right corner of the screen, tap Compose Compose.
  3. In the top right, tap Attach Attach and then Send money.
  4. Enter the amount you want to send and choose a payment method.
  5. Tap Attach money.
  6. Add a memo (optional).
  7. Tap Done.
  8. To send the email, tap Send Send.
    • If you need more time to write your email, you can save it as a draft and send it later.

Receive an email with money attached

The first time you receive money through Gmail, you’ll need to add a debit card to transfer the money to. Whenever someone sends you money through Gmail, it will automatically transfer to that card.

To claim money sent to you through Gmail the first time:

  1. Open the Gmail app.
  2. Open the message with attached money.
  3. Tap Transfer to bank and then Add debit card.
  4. Enter your card details.
  5. Tap Claim money.

Request money from someone by email

  1. Open the Gmail app.
  2. In the bottom left, tap Compose Compose.
  3. In the top right, tap Attach Attach and then Request money.
  4. Enter the amount you want to request.
  5. Tap Attach request.
  6. Add a memo (optional).
  7. Tap Done.
  8. To send the email, tap Send Send.
    • If you need more time to write your email, you can save it as a draft and send it later.
