Send & receive money using a phone number

You can send and receive money using a phone number. If someone sends money to your phone number, you’ll need to link it to your account if you haven’t already. After you link it, money sent to your number in the future is automatically transferred to your default payment method.

Send money to a phone number

  1. Go to pay.google.com.
  2. On the left, click Send or request money.
  3. At the top, choose Send money.
  4. Click $0 and enter the amount you want to send.
  5. Confirm your payment method. You can also include a memo.
  6. Enter your recipient's phone number.
  7. Click Send.
    • If you made a mistake or changed your mind, you have a few seconds to tap Cancel transfer.

Receive money sent to your phone number

After the first time you accept money sent to your phone number, you can link the phone number to your Google Account. When someone sends money to your number in the future, the money is automatically sent to your default payment method.

Claim money by text (first time)

  1. In the text from 445-67 to claim your money, tap the link.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account. If you don't have one, create one.
  3. Add a debit card or bank account.
  4. Enter your address info.
  5. Claim your money.

Add a phone number

If someone sends money to your phone number, you can link the phone number to Google Pay.

  1. In the text from 445-67 to claim your money, tap the link.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account. If you don't have one, create one.
  3. Scroll until you see a card asking you to add a phone number to your account. 
  4. Tap Link phone number.

Remove a phone number

  1. Open the Google Pay app Google Pay.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Settings and then Sending money.
  3. Under "Linked phone number," tap Unlink.
    • You can also unlink your phone number by texting "UNLINK" to 445-67.
