Switch texting from iMessage to Android

If you’re switching from an iPhone to an Android phone, you’ll need to turn off iMessage, Apple’s messaging service.

Make sure to turn iMessage off before you remove the SIM card from your iPhone. Otherwise, SMS/MMS messages sent to you could continue to be directed to your old iPhone instead of to your new Android phone.

To turn off iMessage before you remove the SIM card from your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings on your Apple device.
  2. Tap Messages.
  3. Set iMessage to Off.

If you already removed the SIM card, or you no longer have your old Apple device, you can request that Apple deregister your phone number with iMessage.
