Create a Google News section from part of your website

    • The order of the articles isn't guaranteed.

Best Practices for creating a web location section

  • The URLs used for web location sections should regularly link to fresh content. Since we look for content less than 90 days old, the site needs updates regularly.
  • The URLs used for web location sections should be a page that links to multiple articles, for example, the 'Business' section of a news site. If the page doesn't serve this purpose, the section is empty.
  • The URLs used for web location sections must be in the Google Search index. Visit Search Console and use the URL Inspection Tool to see if there are problems with being in the search index.
    • Remove the 'noindex' tag from your header as it prevents Google from crawling your site, and use the URL that you submitted as a web location.
  • Make sure that you enter a valid URL in Publisher Centre. The URLs resolving in 404 can't be used as web locations.
  • You need to enter a canonical URL in Publisher Centre and avoid the use of redirects. A canonical URL avoids empty results. Your content still renders AMP when available.
  • For the content to be fetched, the publication’s primary language that's set in Publisher Centre must match the content of the URLs used for web location.
  • You need to select a country in Publisher Centre so that the location can be used to more accurately search for articles in the URL that's used for web locations.
