product_fee: Definition

Use the product_fee attribute to display information about any fees related to your product, such as recycling and the copyright fees.

When to use

Optional but highly recommended for all products with the required fees.

When certain types of products are offered for sale online in France, you are required to include all taxes and fees that must be paid by the consumer in the advertised price and to display information about any fees on the product detail page. Taxes are included as part of the price attribute but you must add the additional fees using the product_fee attribute.

Products advertised for sale in the US are required to display applicable taxes (configured in Merchant Center and optionally overridden using the tax attribute) and product fees (using the product_fee attribute) to customers at checkout.

Examples of fees include the French eco-tax WEEE regulation for electrical and electronic goods and the US California electronic waste recycling fee.

Only fees that have been configured by Google are currently available. If you have the need to add a fee that is not represented below, please reach out to us with the details of the fee you want to add.

Note: You’re responsible for maintaining the accuracy of your fees and for applying the total fee for variable rate products. Google can’t calculate fees based on your product data.

Guidelines

Follow these guidelines to make sure you submit high-quality data for your products.

Minimum requirements

These are the requirements you'll need to meet to show ads for your product. If you don't follow these requirements, we'll disapprove your product and let you know in the Diagnostics page of your Merchant Center account.

  • The values for this attribute are formatted as "type:amount,” where "type" is the fee, and "amount" is the amount for the product (format "XX.XX EUR").
  • Use this attribute to provide additional fees that must be paid when purchasing your product, for example recycling fees or copyright fees.
  • Make sure you still include the price attribute with the total price for the product (see the country-specific guidelines for the price attribute).

Best practices

These are best practices that can help you go beyond the basic requirements to optimize your product data for performance.

  • Don't duplicate data within the attribute.
  • Check for errors in grammar, spelling, or capitalization.
  • Apply the total fee due for variable rate products, for example, if there is a 5% item fee, you must calculate and add the total fee to the feed.

Additional guidelines

Review each section closely to determine if the requirements apply to your country or product. If you don't follow requirements that apply to you, we'll disapprove your product and let you know in the Diagnostics page of your Merchant Center account.
