How to fix: Invalid GTIN in unsupported format

Add an accurate GTIN and make sure it only contains numerals

In this article

Reasons why the issue is happening

One or more Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) that you submitted for your products aren't formatted correctly. This error usually occurs because:

  • The GTIN contains characters that aren't numerals.
  • The GTIN has an invalid checksum (a technical method used to verify if your data is correct).
  • The GTIN uses formatting that doesn't match one of the standard GTIN types. You must only use GTINs as they have been assigned by the manufacturer.
  • Too many or too few digits. GTINs are 8, 12, 13, or 14 digits.
  • Failed check digit validation. If you mistyped a digit, the check digit can help to catch that. Use the GS1 check digit calculator

How to fix the issue

Add a valid GTIN for one or more of your products. If your product has a barcode, you can normally find the GTIN on the packaging. For more information about the validation of GTINs, refer to the GTIN Validation Guide.
