The tools can help you to generate scenes, increase image resolution, edit backgrounds, and generate product videos. Your new images and videos can help you to attract more customers when you scale them across your marketing channels.

With Google’s AI Principles in mind, Product Studio brings you the benefits of generative AI, helping you easily create unique and tailored product imagery and videos for free and get more value from the images you already have.

  • Seamlessly update your images across multiple channels: When you save your new or updated images to Merchant Center, it will automatically appear across a wide range of Google platforms, including search results, Shopping ads, Performance Max (PMax) campaigns, and anywhere else that utilizes feed data.

What to expect

Product Studio is available to merchants in AU, AT, BE, BR, CA, CH, DE, ES, GB, IN, IT, JP, NL, PL, and US. It works best with Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish language descriptions. The generate video feature is only available for merchants in the US. We continue to make the product better by improving the user experience, output quality, feature set, and more.

To make sure we're creating the best possible images and videos for your offers, we have a team of quality reviewers who may review your inputs and new images or videos. Here's how it works:

  • We only share the basics: Reviewers view your original offer images, the new images or videos created by our system, and the instructions given to create those new images or videos.
  • Reviewers assess quality: This helps us understand what's working well and where we can improve.
  • Your privacy matters: We only share the information needed to assess the image or video quality. Your confidential business information remains protected.

This process allows us to continuously refine our image generation technology and deliver high-quality visuals that will help your offers shine.

As this feature is still experimental, it may generate unexpected images and videos and works best with certain products. For example, consumer packaged goods with products front and center. This feature doesn’t support images with identifiable or photorealistic people, hands, walled art, and light fixtures. It also doesn’t support image or video creation for regulated goods such as alcohol, drugs, pharmaceuticals, gambling-related products, weapons, tobacco, fireworks, and health and medical devices. Review the Terms of Service for additional information.


How to access Product Studio

Product Studio is only available to merchants using the Google & YouTube app in Shopify or Merchant Center Next. For Merchant Center Next users, learn more about Product Studio for Merchant Center Next.

Instructions

  1. In your Shopify account, click on the Google & YouTube app on the left Sales channel menu.
  2. Click Product Studio on the top navigation bar.
  3. When you’re in Product Studio you’ll be able to select the option to generate a scene, edit background, increase resolution, or generate a video.

Generate scene

Scene generation aims to provide a fast and cost-effective solution for generating high-quality product images that showcase products in natural, lifestyle-like settings. Review the best practices section below to learn more about writing a good scene description and what product images work best with Product Studio.

Instructions

  1. In your Google & YouTube app, click Product Studio on the top navigation bar.
  2. Click Get started.
  3. By default you will land in the scene generation tool. Click Select to choose a product from your account or click Upload to add a new image.
  4. Enter a description with the desired look and setting you want your product displayed in.
    • For the best results, be sure to include the product, placement, surroundings, and background you’d like to be generated.
    • Use a template to populate a scene description with just one click. You can find seasonal, holiday, and studio templates under the "Or start with an inspiring theme” section. Select a theme to automatically populate the “Describe the scene” text box and generate a scene for you.
  5. Click Generate scene. It may take a few moments for the image to load.
  6. If you’re satisfied with the image, click Save to online store. If you’d like to generate a new background you can add a new description and click Regenerate scene.
  7. Click Continue. This will be added as a new image. Your existing image will not be overridden.
Note: If there are 70 images on the product, then you will not be able to save a new image and view an error message.

Edit background

Edit background allows you to remove the background of your product image with one click so only your product remains on a white background to help shoppers view your product clearly.

Instructions

  1. In your Google & YouTube app, click Product Studio on the top navigation bar.
  2. Click Get started.
  3. Under “Product Studio” click Edit background.
  4. Click Select to choose a product from your account or click Upload to add a new image.
  5. Click Remove background.
    • You can now enlarge, reduce, download, or revert your changes.
  6. Click Save to online store.
  7. Click Continue. This will be added as a new image. Your existing image will not be overridden.

Increase resolution

This feature quickly increases the quality and size of your product images to make them look crisp.

Instructions

  1. In your Google & YouTube app, click on Product Studio on the top navigation bar.
  2. Click on Get started.
  3. Under “Product Studio” click on Increase resolution.
  4. Click Select to choose a product from your account or click Upload to add a new image.
  5. Click Increase resolution.
    • You can now slide the Before/After toolbar to view the changes.
  6. Click Save to online store.
  7. Click Continue. This will be added as a new image. Your existing image will not be overridden.

View history

When you use Product Studio, data such as descriptions, generated images, and times of generation will be stored on the device that you’re using. If you’re using a shared device, others may be able to access this information. You can clear the data at any time in the View history tab of Product Studio.

Instructions

  1. In your Google & YouTube app, click Product Studio in the top navigation bar.
  2. Click Get started.
  3. Under 'Product Studio', click View history.
  4. From here, you can “Clear history” or copy the description of scenes you have previously generated.

Note: The generate video feature is only available to merchants in the US. We hope to expand to additional countries soon!

Best practices

Use these best practices to help you choose the best product images and write detailed descriptions to optimize your product data and drive results for your business using Product Studio.

Selecting the right product image

  • Product Studio works best when you choose one main product image. Select a starting image that only has one main product. Product Studio doesn’t work well if it can’t easily identify the main product in the starting image.

  • Place the product at the center of the image and leave most of the canvas white. If the main product is taking a large portion of the image (such as, very close or touching the edge of the image), use the “reduce” button to make the product smaller. The product should be centered and leave most of the canvas white.

Writing a good scene description

When describing your scene, consider the following and provide these details within your description to get the best results:
  • The style of image. For example, product photography, illustration, macro photography, etc.
  • The type of product you are adding to the scene. For example, a bottle of cologne.
  • The placement of the product. For example, on a stone platform.
  • The scene around the product. For example, surrounded by white and yellow flower petals.
  • The background. For example, large tropical leaves and foliage in the background.
