About automatic shipping improvements

Estimated delivery time is important information for customers evaluating a possible purchase. To help make sure the estimated delivery time you show to customers is the shortest and most accurate, you can choose to have Google calculate your estimated delivery dates, based on your historical performance rather than the estimates in your shipping settings. The performance-based estimates will show on ads and listings.

How it works

To show more accurate estimated delivery dates, you’ll just need to switch the feature on in your Merchant Center account. Anyone selling on Google can opt-in or out to these automatic shipping improvements, but you must have shipping services set up in your account, and you’ll need to share order data with Google with tracking numbers in order for predictions to be surfaced.

This feature will improve your estimated delivery times based on:

  • The delivery address of an order
  • Your current handling time and shipping time settings
  • Estimated weekdays or business days in your account
  • Parcel tracking data

If you enable automatic shipping improvements, we’ll take an analysis of your estimated delivery times versus your actual delivery times and surface the more competitive estimated delivery dates to your customers. We’ll only surface estimated delivery dates that are trending shorter than your configurations. We won’t ever lengthen estimated delivery dates based on your performance data.

If you previously participated in the estimated delivery date prediction pilot, you’ll see that this feature is already toggled on in your Merchant Center account. You can turn it off at any time.

Additionally, if you experience any significant disruption to your business and think your estimated delivery times may change, you can toggle the feature off until your operations normalize.

Instructions

  1. Sign in to your Merchant Center account.
  2. From the tools menu, click Shipping and returns.
  3. Click the "Shipping" tab, and then click the "Automatic shipping improvements" card.
  4. Toggle “Enable automatic shipping improvements” on.
  5. Click Save.
