Share your real-time location with others

You can choose who can find your location and for what length of time, with Google Location sharing.

Tip: Other Google products may also allow you to share a one-time location with others.  

Location sharing availability

You may get a warning when you open Location sharing. Common causes include:

• You're in a country or region where you can’t share your location.
• Location sharing isn’t available for your G Suite domain. Ask your administrator to turn on this feature.  
• You're too young to share your location.
  • Your parent or guardian can manage Location sharing with the Family Link app .

Share your location with someone

1. ​On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app  and sign in.
   • Learn how to sign in.​
2. Tap your profile picture or initial    Location sharing Add people .
3. To share your location with someone:
   • If the other person has a Google Account:
     1. Make sure that their Gmail address is part of your Google Contacts.
     2. Choose how long you want to share your location for.
     3. Tap the profile of the person that you want to share your location with.
     4. If asked about your contacts, give Google Maps permission.
4. Tap Share.

• If the other person doesn’t have a Google Account:
  1. Tap Copy to clipboard. A link to your location is copied.
  2. Paste the link into a message in your text, email or other messaging app and send it to the person that you want to share your location with.
  3. People with this link can find your location for up to 72 hours or less if you choose.

Stop sharing your location with someone

1. Open the Google Maps app .
2. Tap your profile picture or initial   Location sharing.
3. Tap the profile of the person that you don’t want to share your location with anymore.
4. Tap Stop.

Share your estimated time of arrival

After you start navigation by car, walking or bicycle, you can share your destination, estimated arrival time and where you are on the route.

1. Open the Google Maps app .
2. Set a destination.
3. Learn how to use navigation.
4. After you start navigation, tap More   Share trip progress.
5. Tap the profile of the person whom you want to share with  Share.
6. Location Sharing stops when you reach your destination or exit navigation.
7. To stop sharing before you arrive, tap More   Stop sharing.

Share your public transit info

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
2. Choose the public transport route that you want to take.
3. After you start navigation, tap Share trip.
4. Select the person that you want to share with  Share.

Tip: Maps stops sharing your location when you reach your destination.

Find someone’s location

Find someone on your map

When someone shares their location with you, you can find them on your map.

1. Open the Google Maps app .
2. Tap your profile picture or initial   Location sharing.
3. Tap the profile of the person that you want to find.
4. To get an updated location, tap your friend’s icon   More   Refresh.

Request someone’s location

If you’ve shared your location with someone, or they’ve shared with you in the past, you can ask for their location in Maps.

1. Open the Google Maps app .
2. Tap your profile picture or initial   Location sharing.
3. Tap a contact who’s shared with you before.
4. Tap Request   Request.

Your contact will get your email address and a notification after you ask for their location. Once they get your notification, they can:

• View your profile to verify who you are.
• Share their location with you.
• Ignore your request.
• Block you. You can’t ask for their location anymore.

Tip: You can also ask the Google Assistant on your phone, smart display or other smart device to show you someone's location.

Hide or show someone's location

Hide someone's location

If you don’t want someone’s real-time location on your map, you can hide it.

1. Open the Google Maps app .
2. On the map, tap their icon.
3. At the bottom, tap More .
4. To temporarily hide someone, tap Hide from map. You can turn their location back on at any time.

Turn on someone’s location that you’ve hidden

If you previously hid someone’s location and want it to show up on your map again:

1. Open the Google Maps app .
2. Tap your profile picture or initial   Location sharing   More .
3. Tap Hidden from map   More   Show on map.

Deny or block a location request

If you don’t want to share your location with someone in Google Maps, you can:

• Deny the request: Tap No. Your location isn’t shared.
• Block the requester: Tap Block. Your location isn’t shared and the requester can’t ask for your location anymore. When you block someone, it affects how they can contact you in other Google products. Learn more about blocking users.

Unblock someone

1.  Tap your profile picture or initial    Location sharing.
2. At the top, tap More   Blocked users.
3. Next to the person that you want to unblock, tap Remove .
