Blur or remove 360 photos

You can blur parts of your 360 photos to hide details such as faces or license plates. If there are people or information that you don’t have permission to show in your photo, we recommend you blur these elements to respect others’ privacy.

If Google is the owner of the photo, you can request blurring of the photo. You can also request blurring or report a photo if the image contains:

Notes:

  • If Google doesn’t own the photo, the photo owner is responsible for blurring the photo before publishing it. If you think that someone else has published a photo of you that violates the Google Maps Image Acceptance and Privacy Policies , report the photo using the instructions below.
  • After a photo is blurred and published, the blur can’t be removed from the photo.

Blur your photos

Here’s some info about blurring photos using the Street View app:

  • You can only blur photos in the “Private” tab. You can’t blur a photo or remove a blur after a photo has been published.
  • As you publish your photo, you can choose to apply the blur or not. After you’ve opened the photo you want to publish, tap More More Apply blurring Apply blur or Remove blurring Remove blur.

Manually blur photos

  1. Open the Street View app Street View.
  2. Under the “Private” tab, open a photo.
  3. Touch and hold the spot on your photo that you want to blur.
  4. Tap Done Done.
  5. To undo the blur, touch and hold the spot on the photo that’s blurred and tap Remove Remove.

Automatically detect and blur faces

Step 1: Turn on automatic face detection.

  1. Open the Street View app Street View.
  2. Tap the Menu .
  3. Choose Settings.
  4. Next to “Automatically detect faces in 360 photos,” turn the switch on.

Step 2: Detect a face and blur.

  1. Open the Street View app Street View.
  2. Under the “Private” tab, open a photo.
  3. Tap More More Detect faces and blur . Faces in the photo may be detected and blurred.
  4. To undo the blur, touch and hold the spot on the photo that’s blurred and tap Remove Remove.

Delete a photo

  1. Open the Street View app Street View.
  2. Under "Profile" or "Private," choose a photo to delete.
  3. In the top right, tap More More.
  4. Tap Delete .
  5. Confirm your deletion and tap Delete.

Note: You can find 360 photos that you published before November 2016 in the Geo Panoramas folder in Google Photos. When you delete, move, share, or hide 360 photos from the Geo Panoramas folder, those photos will be deleted from Google Maps. Before you delete a 360 photo from the Street View app, save the photo on your phone or upload the photo from your phone to your computer or other storage device. This way, you can use the photo again later.

Request blurring or removal of a photo

Use the Street View app

  1. Open the Street View app Street View.
  2. Find and open the photo that violates the Google Maps Image Acceptance and Privacy Policies .
  3. In the top right, tap More More.
  4. Select Report a problem.
  5. Complete the form and tap Submit.

Use the Google Maps app

  1. Open the Google Maps app Google Maps.
  2. Find and open the photo that violates the Google Maps Image Acceptance and Privacy Policies .
  3. Tap the screen once to show the menu bar.
  4. In the top right, tap More More.
  5. Select Report a problem.
