How to fix: Invalid format for sub-attributes

Include a separator symbol between each sub-attribute, and include all required sub-attributes

One or more of your products includes a sub-attribute value that is incorrectly formatted. For example, you might have a group of products tagged with the same feature_description attribute for which you list a headline of 'Waterproof' and text of 'Rated IP7', but don't provide the image. A correct value for this attribute could be 'Waterproof:Rated IP7:' with sub-attributes separated by colons. If you include a sub-attribute value that is incorrectly formatted, the attribute will be disapproved and rejected.

This applies to the following attributes:

  • feature_description
  • product_detail

To fix this issue, use a supported format for this attribute and specify all required sub-attributes.

Instructions

Step one: See the affected products

  1. Sign in to your Manufacturer Center account.
  2. Select Diagnostics on the navigation menu.
  3. Click the Item issues tab to see current issues affecting your products.

To download a list (.csv) of all affected products for a particular issue:

  • Find the issue under the 'Issue' column, then click the download button [icon] at the end of the row.

To see up to three products with this particular issue:

  • Find the issue under the 'Issue' column, then click View samples in the 'Affected items' column.

Step two: Include all required sub-attributes with correct formatting

  1. Filter the downloaded report so that you only see products with:
"Issue" = Invalid format for sub-attributes.
  2. Search your product data for those products (using the ID), and make sure that each product is using accurate values for sub-attributes, and that all required sub-attributes are listed. Remember to include a separator symbol between each sub-attribute.

Step three: Resubmit your product data

  1. After you've updated your product data, resubmit it using one of these methods:
    • Upload a feed
    • Submit through the Content API
    • Import content from an e-commerce platform
  2. Next, check that you've fixed the issue by making sure that it's no longer listed on the Diagnostics page.

Keep in mind that it may take some time for your change to be reflected on the Diagnostics page.
