Use bots to help you in Google chat

Bots are automatic programs you chat with, just like people. 

They can help:

  • Look up information
  • Schedule a meeting
  • Complete a task

Find and chat with bots

You can find available bots and send a direct message.

  1. Open the Gmail app .
  2. Open the Chat tab.
  3. Tap Add "".
  4. Tap Message a bot.
  5. Enter a bot name, or select from the list of suggestions.

Add bots to your chats

  1. Open the Gmail app .
  2. Open the Chat tab.
  3. In the People section, select a direct message.
  4. At the top, tap the name of the person, or someone from the list of people in the chat.
  5. Tap Add bots.
  6. Enter a bot name, or select from the list of suggestions.

Add bots to spaces

You can add bots to spaces the same way you add people. To learn more, go to Invite people or bots to a space.

Use bots to get help or give feedback

  1. Open the Gmail app .
  2. Open the Chat tab.
  3. Open a direct message with the bot, or go to a space with the bot.
  4. Show the commands you can use with the bot:
    • In a direct message with the bot, enter help.
    • In a space or direct message enter @botname help.  Botname is the name of the bot.
  5. Send Google a comment about the bot:
    • In a direct message, enter your feedback.
    • In a space or direct message with other people, enter @botname feedback.

Remove bots

  1. Open the Gmail app .
  2. Open the Chat tab.
  3. At the bottom, tap People "".
  4. Tap the bot you want to remove.
  5. At the top, tap the bot name and then Remove.

Create bots

To create custom bots, go to the Google Chat API documentation.
