Important: If you link another account to an existing Gmail account, you might reach your storage limit. Learn how to clear your Google storage.

Link your address to Gmail

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. In the top right, click Settings Settings and then See all settings.
  3. Click the Accounts and Import or Accounts tab.
  4. In the "Check mail from other accounts" section, click Add a mail account.
  5. Type the email address you want to link and then click Next.
  6. Select Link account with Gmail (Gmailify) and then Next.
  7. Follow the steps on the screen and then click Next or Sign in.

After you link your account, "Gmailify" appears next to your email address. When you open Gmail, you can read, reply to, and organize messages from your other account just like you do in Gmail.

Unlink your address

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. In the top right, click Settings Settings and then See all settings.
  3. Click Accounts and Import.
  4. In the "Check mail from other accounts" section, click unlink.

After you unlink your other account from Gmail, you can choose to keep or delete existing copies of your other account's messages in your Gmail inbox.

  • If you delete copies from Gmail, you can still read the messages in the inbox of your other service (for example, Yahoo or Hotmail).
  • If you keep copies in Gmail, they stay in your Gmail account. However, if you move or delete them in Gmail, these actions aren't reflected in your other account.

Find emails from your other account in Gmail

Gmail might organize your messages differently from other email services.

Empty trash limit

Messages in your "Trash" aren't deleted according to Gmail's 30-day limit, but according to the "Empty trash" limit of your other mail service.

For example, if your other email service keeps a message in "Trash" for 60 days before permanently deleting it, you'll see the message in Gmail "Trash" for 60 days.

Archived emails

When you archive an email in Gmail, it’s stored in a new "Archive" folder in your other email service.

To find archived messages in your other account, check the "Archive" folder.

Labels and folders

When you add a label to a message, it's stored in a folder with that label name in your other email account. For example, if you added a "Work" label to a message in Gmail, you can find the message in a folder called "Work" in your other email account.

If you add multiple labels to a message, it creates multiple folders that each have a copy of the message in your other email account.

Tip: If you have limited storage space in your non-Gmail account, don't add multiple labels to your messages in Gmail.
