To improve your drafts, you can use Gemini in Gmail to proofread and get advanced grammar, tone, and style suggestions.
What you need
Important:
- This feature is available only in the US and in English for Google AI users.
- If you have a Google Workspace plan, it's available globally in English only.
To use Proofread:
- For personal Google Accounts: You need one of the following:
- An eligible Google AI plan:
- Access to Google Workspace Experiments.
- For work or school accounts: You need an eligible Google Workspace plan. Learn more about Gemini features and plans.
Additional requirements
For the Gmail app on Android, iPhone, and iPad, Proofread is available in early access.
- For personal Google Accounts: You need access to Google Workspace Experiments.
- For work or school accounts: You need an eligible Google Workspace plan with access to Gemini Alpha.
- If you use a work or school account, your administrator controls access to Gemini Alpha.
- If you can't find Proofread, your administrator may not have Alpha features enabled for your organization.
Accept suggestions in a draft
- In a draft, tap an underlined word or phrase to open the suggestion panel.
- Review the change:
- To accept the suggestion, tap it.
- To dismiss the suggestion, tap Ignore

- Optional: To give feedback on a suggestion, tap Report an issue
.
Tip: If you ignore a suggestion, it doesn’t reappear for the same word or phrase unless you change the text.
Turn off Proofread
Important: When you turn off Proofread, you won't get grammar suggestions.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app

- At the top left, tap Menu

- Under “Compose and reply,” tap Writing assistance.
- Turn off Proofread.
