Reviews and ratings for Local Services providers

Google and its partner affiliates may ask customers to rate and review each business featured in Local Services Ads. These ratings can appear in search results, as well as in each provider’s profile.

About reviews and ratings on Local Services

Reviews should be based on your personal experience and be specific, factual, and relevant to the services you received. Write what you think would be helpful for other readers to know and be respectful even when leaving a negative review. For example, a helpful review may focus on a provider’s professionalism, quality of work, and whether the price was a good value.

You will not receive any compensation or consideration in return for your review, and Local Services Providers are prohibited from offering consumers compensation in return for their reviews.

Reviews are usually published within 3 business days, and are not archived. By default, Local Services reviews for each provider appear in chronological order, with the most recent review first.

Do not post reviews that are duplicates, contain promotional content, or reveal anyone’s personal information. We also do not allow reviews that violate our policies on discrimination, hate speech, harassment, bullying, spam, or phishing. Neither consumers nor providers should attempt to contact a reviewer directly regarding their review.

What happens when you submit a review?

Reviews will not be posted until our team reviews and approves the content.

Here are examples of review content that may result in disqualification:

  • Issue is unrelated to the service provided
  • Discriminatory or hate speech
  • Personal attacks
  • Physical threats of violence
  • Obscene, profane, or offensive language
  • Sexually explicit material
  • Promoting your own business
  • An employment experience
  • Posting a review for the wrong service provider

How to leave a review on Local Services

When you use Local Services to find a provider, you may be contacted to give your feedback and rating for the business.

You can also search for the provider's profile on Local Services and use the Add a Review feature:

  1. Search for the business on Google Search.
  2. Click on the ad preview of the business to view its full profile.
  3. Scroll down to the "Reviews" section, then click Add a Review.
  4. Write a review and give a start rating for the business, then click Post.

You can make a rating on a 5-point scale based on your experience, and write a review. When you leave detailed information about your experience, it can help other customers to make informed decisions.

After posting a rating and review, you may be asked a few additional questions about the service provider (for example, “Did the provider make every attempt to arrive on time?”). Your answers will be combined with other customer responses and may be shown to Google users. We don't share your name and personal details.

Types of reviews

Anonymous reviews

When leaving a review with Local Services, you have the option to make your review and rating anonymous. This means your name will not be displayed along with your review. Anonymous reviews contain the approximate date the service was performed (week or month), the type of service provided, and the city where the service was performed, but not your name or profile photo.

Google verified reviews

Note: Google verified reviews are currently only available in the U.S. and Canada.

Reviews for providers found and hired through Local Services include a "Google verified" label. This means that Google was able to verify that the customer who wrote the review booked the service provider through Local Services.

Reviews from other sources

Providers may also have reviews for services not booked through Local Services. This could include reviews left on other Google products, or partner affiliate websites. These reviews don’t have a “Google verified” label.

Edit or delete reviews

If you need to change or delete a review you submitted through Local Services, please contact us.

Note: Google has a strict policy against fake reviews. Google reserves the right to take down any review deemed to be fake or that doesn’t comply with Google’s user content and conduct policies.
